Er... fuck off.  WE can take as long as we bloody well like before invoking article 50.  Cheeky fucquers.

Angela Merkel has said exactly the same this afternoon and she owns the EU*

*Soon to be renamed the Fourth Reich in honour of the UK leaving.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

We don't know yet if holding the referendum and voting out constitutes 'notification'. The definition is up to interpretation.

I laughed when I read the silly story that the EU could take our referendum result or Cameron's verbal comments as "notification" for Article 50. Absolute utter bollocks. I bet some fools will believe it though. Something that has shaken world markets doesn't need formal documentation. Yeah, right :))

We'll know for sure next week.
There is nothing in Article 50 that specifies what form the notification takes.
This is uncharted territory so we'll have to wait and see.

It doesn't. We need an act of parliament to enact Article 50. This has to be agreed by the house.

It was just on the news, it has to be in a speech by the PM to the EU or letter to the EU, according to the EU.

Besides - the referendum count showing a majority in favour of exit is not the same as the Govt declaring it will.

General consensus from the Leavers seems to be that it will be by the end of the year at the latest.

Thatt attitude is one of the reasons I voted leave - I'd have thought the result would send a message that they don't shouldn't try to control everyone.

As there don't seem to be any grounds to expel the UK, there isn't really much they can do. As I'm sure I've said elsewhere I don't see why if the people want out you shouldn't make it happen.

Unless..... it isn't binding and can be seen as a gauge of public opinion and something to work with towards reform.

It is advisory rather than compulsory.

Can everyone just calm down now.

Could you imagine the level of unrest amongst the right wing if that vote was just seen as advisory? Much as I was against the result, I think that would be very dangerous. England is out, Scotland and NI might be able to remain. Whatever happens happens... despite what these stupid 'experts' say, England might well still be the big winner.

Yep, the EU is already bullying the UK regarding triggering the Article 50 thing.    Trying to tell us what to do.

It's further evidence of why we should leave the EU.

Who wants to be in a club of bullies?

We'll trigger Article 50 when we feel like it, thankyou, as we're entitled to.

    Piss off EU.

I don't buy the 'advisory' thing.  People are expecting the Govt to act on the referendum.  To back out, quoting the 'advisory' line would be political suicide for every one of them involved.  Ain't gonna happen.

Sure the EU will reform. By adopting closer political union. Exactly the opposite of what Eurosceptics in European countries want.

The referendum result clearly does not constitute a notification to the EU.  The result is not even legally binding on the UK govt!   The EU rule involving Article 50 requires a formal and explicit notification from a member state's govt.

For once I agree with @Chalky. This might be an unexpect bonus for the EU. The most powerful Eurosceptic country has ejected itself and now with some deft footwork and some promises of reform, the long sought-after closer political union can be taken forward. If that's the case, they might look to assist England leave as fast as they can.

Surely the leavers will demand instant EU withdrawal.
And beefed up border control at all ports.
And a significant and sudden drop in immigration.
And a weekly £350 million cheque for the NHS.

I think it's going to be a while before we 'take back control.'
