    I'm good for either sat 14th or sun 15th.

    Ringleader of the Cambridge cartel, pedal champ and king of the dirt boxes (down to 21)

    14th is no good for me but don't let that stop you - I haven't made any unalterable commitment to attend on the 15th either, just a probability

  • That whole weekend is no good for me sadly.

    @ddlooping

    There seem to be more takers for Sat 14th ATM with the sad exception of Ronnie who can't do either.

    Just met with Phil_aka_Pip, and done a venue inspection.

    Looks good - big thanks to Phil for sorting it out ...

    The Magpie pub at Little Stonham, Suffolk.  It's on the main A140, about 3-4 miles north of the A14/A140 junction.  Easier than easy to find.  Plenty of parking, decent beer, and we'll look into food.  Stowmarket rail station (direct trains via Colchester/Chelmsford to Liverpool St, plus Norwich, Cambridge and Peterborough) is about 5 miles away.

    The date - suiting as many people as possible (including the venue) - is 99% likely to be Sat 14 Sept.  Suggest we start in the afternoon (open doors at 3ish, get there whenever you can after that) and finish later in the evening, probably have to be out by chucking out time.

    How about ... We spend some time looking at gear-y stuff.  We spend some time talking about gear-y stuff.  We spend some time perhaps jamming along to some pre-agreed generic chord progressions (perhaps not just 12bar blues??).  If any groups of peoples fancy sorting out some other stuff to play, that would be great too.

    Anything else?

    Oh, and it's in a pub.  So the beer is, quite literally, on tap. :D

    Perhaps best to get some of the playing out of the way before the beer starts flowing ...

  • I will try to get along to meet you all.. Not to far from me

  • For commonly used chord progressions, there's a thread on here somewhere about those, lets try some. FWIW I like the Camel Never let go progression: E-, C, B-, C so save that one for me!

    Food is likely to be burger&chips, heart disease platter (bacon sausage, egg, mushroom, tomato etc) and similar things. HDP is highly recommended!

    I'm told it was a gibbet. They hanged highwaymen from it and left them dangling over the turnpike. It showed travellers that it was worth paying the toll to have the highway maintained and policed. Mind you, I can't imagine having dead men dangling a few yards from the inn being conducive to the appetites or even thirst of the inn's customers.

    OK, that's about 100 miles from me...unless somebody's coming past Peterborough, I think that probably counts me out ;)

    Of course, it doesn't help that I'm about as far west as you can get while still being in East Anglia :P
