After a brief and unsuccessful flirt with fender style i once again have 2 good ones and one fairly terrible that just isn't worth selling. I'd say it's more man - having loads of guitars for the sake of it is like a woman owning tonnes of handbags and shoes for the sake of it :P I have hairy shoulders so my manliness cannot be denied.

You would be more of a musician if you spend time playing them
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I've got three, plus a bass and a lap steel. I think there are better measures of who's more of a man than who.

But then I would say that, with my tiny, flaccid guitar collection.

Even though many of us have multiple guitars, I think the most common attitude on the forum is a slightly preachy "the fewer the better", "how many do you actually need", "you should spend more time playing than thinking about gear".  I often get the impression I'm supposed to feel guilty about how I spend my money.

So no, by that yardstick you're more of a man.  Apparently.  ;)

My therapist said manliness starts with three electric guitars... absolutely no less. Sorry. Facts are facts.

Men are only supposed to have one pair of shoes and one pair of trainers just like we're supposed to have one Strat and one Les Paul.

Having a different pair of shoes/guitar for every outfit is for the ladies

So if I have one Les Paul(ish) guitar and one Strat(ish) guitar, my spare one would make me more girly, right?

Only the spare is a Telecaster, which is surely the most manly kind of guitar out there, hewn as it is from two planks screwed together with big screws. Does not compute.

I have more guitars than I used to, and therefore I'm more of a man than I used to be. By weight anyway.
Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a guitar a little.

I've always admired a guitar player who has mastered one instrument - Guys like Rory Gallagher and Danny Gatton have pretty much accomplished a large portion of their work on one guitar - I know they had more than 1 guitar, but a large % of their work is on one guitar - Yet the large majority of or hero's have many guitars and I dare say the longer the career the more they've ducked and dived - Yet if I had to pick one guitar then I don't know what I'd pick as so many guitars have great attributes and the perfect be all and end all guitar doesn't exist

Even Brian May has had more than one BM model

I'm actually thinking that as I type which of our hero's have only 1 guitar

Maybe guitars are like golf clubs when you need different ones for a different situation

Yet if you take a saxophone, most will only have 1 and if they have 2 it will be say Tenor and Alto

  • It's inversely proportional.

The more guitars, the less of a man you are.

The fewer you have, the more of a man you are.

    Simple!

So extrapolating, 0 guitars means 100% manly. It's just simple maths really.
