@Paul_C ;- were all the Customs docs filled out OK and accurate?

no idea, I had nothing to do with arranging the shipping - all I did was box it up and put the address on it - the chap receiving it was responsible for the shipping.

that might be problem then..............anything shipped outside the EU needs Customs documents (attached to the parcel), and they have to be signed, stating what is in the parcel and its value (so Customs in the destination country can charge appropriate import tax).

That sounds likely - as I say, I didn't get involved in arranging the shipping.

I've messaged the Russian and let him know.

  • If he arranged the shipping (from his home in Russia) - with Parcel Force - he should have been given the Customs forms ..............then he should have emailed them to you...............then you should have printed them off and attached them to the parcel.

The Russian is the recipient in all this...........if you are officially the sender (which I think you are, since it was returned to you) then its you that has to sign the Customs forms.

So you're signing and taking responsibility as to whats in the parcel and that the value of it is accurate (ie its not being under declared to avoid paying the county's import tax).

it's looking like I shall see it again soon - my intention is to turn it away and tell them to send it to Russia, which is what they were paid to do.

To be fair - I've had this numerous times buying things from Amazon and shipping to Zurich. It normally means it was rejected at destination customs, either with incorrect or illegible paper work. I bought some headphones once that took 7 attempts for Amazon to get to me. All shipped via Parcelforce . Eventually they shipped DHL and they got here 1st attempt.

Currently it's in a Parcelforce depot somewhere - "apparently" some instruments are regularly refused by Russian customs so he wants it sent to his sister's address in Latvia, but it has to be returned here first, unless they sort things out at Parcelforce.

So there's still an opportunity for drama but nothing much is happening at the moment.

  • I'm not that surprised, the company I work for are not able to ship instruments directly to Russia. They have to be shipped to the Ukraine and taken over the border by lorry.

MAJOR UPDATE: It's currently residing at "MOSKVA PCI-8 EMS" - which might mean it's not been turned back this time ;)

Still quite a distance from St. Petersburg, but nearer than it's been for quite a while :)

    OMG!!!

    Tracking says "Out For Delivery"

    :o

Unfortunately it also says "Attempted delivery" so it's not quite there yet, but it's not far away now (I assume it hasn't gone back to Moscow).
