f it happens again just edit your source images to dick pics or an image saying "Fire Guitars do not own this guitar" lol

I brought it to their attention, along with suggesting that they look into all the other items on there - looking at the picture backgrounds, he seems to have as many houses as he does guitars...

He had a LP on ebay for sale not too long ago that I put in an offer for (which was refused) and then he started bombarding me with messages saying I wouldn't find another as good as this at that price blah blah blah. I told him to naff off but he pestered away regardless.

I do wonder whose photos he had stolen for that one!

Is it time to lock the classifieds to established posters?

That would result in two things:

1 - Almost zero site growth (which leads directly to eventual site death)
2 - People who can access the classifieds get less exposure for their ads, which means less chance of a sale

    Short answer: no ;)

Fire guitars will love a review of their services and operations.

    The power of the internet.

I can't stand people who operate and sell goods in this manner just ripping people off.

Bass chat is still going strong and they charge per classifieds ad
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

£2 via PayPal to post an ad would work a treat.

Would also eliminate a lot of the overpriced 40 post overdrive for sale threads

Back in the late 80s there was a proper guitar shop in Ealing, can't remember the name of it but it was down by the park.

    It caught fire.

Maybe this one nicked the idea too...

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

I'd be careful about how I expressed that - it implies that user experience is 2nd to having lots of users, of whatever quality and motivation

They used to have an order of magnitude more traffic than they have now. That's not something that we want to volunteer for.

The central point is that this is a public forum, which carries all the pros and cons that go with being public. Closing the classifieds off because of this incident is a really silly suggestion; people quite comfortably put stuff up for sale on eBay, Gumtree, Reverb etc all the time and none of that is private. The exposure to Google is a big part of how things sell.

Which bit of says that our members come second to lots of users? And how many people would be well served by a slow death of the site (which is demonstrably what happens to any site which doesn't actively court growth)?

It strikes me that one person nicking photos to try a scam doesn't really warrant closing the whole classifieds section off to the wider Internet; besides, I think our track record with regard to scammers is self-evident, and speaks far more about how much we care about our members' experience.

  • I think this is the same group that I raised queries about on the fretboard a while ago re an ES 339. When I called and wanted to see it was 'in a shop on Tin Pan Alley'.
