Apparently Paul Weller was in last night's episode dressed as a Viking.
I thought that was a joke I didn't understand, but I now realise it was simply a statement of fact.

Paul Weller was lying on the floor of Sherlock's flat dressed as a Viking .. Watson was checking if he was OK. It happened .. Moffat lost the plot .. :-)

Last week's Endeavour had references to The IT Crowd and The Day Today. "1959.. no one died.. 1960.. no one died" at a leisure centre too! Brilliant.

    Edit: found it.

Yes. I think the term is overwrought.

    It's not a competition.

31 unread comments since I last looked on here. I'll have to go back through but a) went a bit Crystal Maze and b) I spotted Paul Weller's brief appearance. But I enjoyed it greatly. Right, now to read 31 reasons why I shouldn't have... :3

I wrote a joke, but in reflection it could easily come across as horrendous personal abuse.

I read your original post, and had decided to write you a very strongly worded letter. Now I see that your post has changed, I no longer feel the need to break out the quill or quink ink.

  • This is the best review of Sherlock I have seen so far:

  • @vasselmeyer - that's probably the best description of this series that I've ever seen. In fact, swap out "Sherlock Holmes" and replace it with "Doctor Who", and it still applies perfectly.

Agreed. The first series was just SO good because it was a labour of love, written (as I understand it) on the train for Cardiff on the way to Dr Who filming. There was given time to polish it and hone the writing and there were no expectations because it was new.

It just  got so popular that they just threw any old shit at it and disappeared up their own arses because people just kept saying how wonderful it was with no quality control as far as I can see. An update Sherlock is a great premise, but the opportunity is just wasted and after the STUPID stories of this season (slightly mollifed by Ep 2 which was mostly OK) I shan't be watching again. I haven't watched Dr Who since Matt Smith took over from David Tennant and my kids also fell out of love with it and there was no reason  for me to watch it on my own.

I think people's expectations were massively increased by the fact that they couldn't release a series more frequently than every 2 years and that they couldn't manage more than 3 episodes per series. When there are some brilliant US shows with >20 episodes per series and multiple series, it's really disappointing that the BBC couldn't pull off even a fraction of that.

As an aside, Elementary is a very good modern Sherlock programme IMO.
