have you lasted multiple months with the helix? that must be a record for you
how are you using your helix? FX only in 4cm? or something else?
Oh my!
Played through the first bank of presets using good (Audio Technica) studio headphones. There are actually some brilliant patches in there - among the cleaner ones.
Played around modifying some and assigning expression control (so easy to do)
Then set up a patch from scratch with stomp-able comp, drive, delay and reverb - sounded fantastic right off the bat.
Love it
Dodgy playing aside it's the most I've been motivated to play for a while.
Its flexibility inspires creativity, and I'm a lazy bastard really. Plus it has pretty colours...
- 4cm for FX only with my real amps. Also controlling the amp channels.
- Direct recording for stuff at home.
- Vocal processor for home recording.
- Sending midi commands to my DAW (Triggering Ableton Live slots for instance)
- Late night looping with headphones on!
I was Intrigued to hear how you were getting on with it as you've also been through a ton of gear and systems, yet helix seems to have stayed a while now.
I am at a point where it's integral.
I'd like to get a powered PA cab type thing (currently using studio headphones)
I've heard decent things about the Yamaha DBR and DXR 10" units - bit less fancy and much cheaper.
Once I've recouped my outlay on the Helix I think I'll take a trip somewhere that does all this stuff (Anderton's maybe) and try a couple of things out.
If those sound a bit niche that's because they really do seem to have thought of everything else.
Last night I started playing with Snapshots - making a solid generic rock sound and comparing a Friedman IR with a tweaked internal cab. I just want to assure myself there is no need to dive down the IR rabbit hole.
too much information flying between them
im really looking forward to native so I can design my patches on my studio machine and then upload to the Helix when I fancy
Helix is sat at home waiting for me. Today has been a loooooong day at work.
Q. is anyone using a matrix power amp (or similar) to run into stereo cabs?
Does something like this have a flat EQ section, so that you can use an amp model (pre and power) in the helix without adding an additional power amp characteristic ?
