Had a strange compulsion this morning to swap back to the 'Traditional' script truss rod cover from the plain historic one I fitted about 8 years ago.

Went into Dawsons to have a look.... came out with a new 2019 50s Standard in Desert Burst.

Was the first person to open the case and play it, which was quite a good experience. Seems like a great guitar; just got it home and applying lots of lemon oil to the neck; was dry as a bone!

I love the look of these new Gibsons. So many models appeal to me.

However... I have to try one of these. I am going to start setting aside cash to hopefully buy one later this year. I stole this pic from Kenny's Music Facebook page. I mean... look at it!

Also tried an Explorer for the first time; nice to play but a very different hand position to the Les Paul, so I had to go for the Les Paul in the end.

Dawsons hadn't even opened the boxes of the new Gibsons; I was the first one to try 4 of them (2 x 60s and 2 x 50s). The 60s necks are VERY slim; thinner than the one on my 2008 Standard, which is what I'm trying to match; felt the 50s was more similar, especially around the join to the body.

People have been begging for solid bodies but I suspect weight chat isn’t too far away...Peach have a tobacco 50s Les Paul weighing in at 10lbs 11oz!!

Yup that one is heavy, but what is more surprising to me is that there are others at historic weights, I've seen a 9lb 2 which is very impressive, bravo.

My new 50s is pretty light for a solid body - certainly not as heavy as my 2017 Traditional.
