Couldnt trace it for a good while but eventually found it at the back of a cupboard.
This is what you should have done
Did you get it sorted? I won't sleep until I find out.
I have the chirp. As soon as I heard it I knew straight away what it was.
Then I thought, hold on, all our smoke alarms have been changed out for mains ones as we’ve just had a loft conversion. Then it dawned on me, the builders have only left the old battery smoke alarm on when they have put the new lowered landing ceiling in!
So now I have a month of chirps to enjoy before the battery dies, I either suffer it or smash a hole in my freshly plastered, decorated ceiling!
Why the hell would the builders board over a smoke alarm
Just kill the thing
Cut a round hole in the ceiling, thenfix it
I'd demand the builders do it
" 4 years ago during renovations my builder managed to gib over a battery operated smoke alarm I had sitting on the framing. It chirped for about 3 years and for the last year alternates between chirping and squeeling. It has driven me bonkers but I can't afford to have the wall taken apart and re-done!! So maybe they do eventually stop beeping, chirping and squeezing but don't wait! it can take years and I'm still waiting!!"
I though about getting the builders to do it, but have just a) got rid of them after 15 weeks b) don't really want them making a mess over the new carpet. But if it goes on longer than the 30 days I'll get them back.
