As my custom made kit is getting closer to it's shipping date, I thought I'd start a thread here, which I will keep updated with the progress
I've previously owned a Gibson Explorer and loved the shape of it, I only ended up moving it on as I bought my Les Paul Custom and just stopped playing it, but always fancied owning another one. I love the look of white Gibsons and I specifically like the look of the Custom models (MOP blocks, ebony board, 5 and 7 ply binding etc..), so when Precision Guitar Kits started offering The X (
link here) I got in touch with Phil and asked him to quote me with some changes.
We agreed a price and the order was placed, the specs are as following (my build sheet):
The final thing that spurned me on to do this was Lzzy Hales Explorer, which, at the time wasn't going to be a production run guitar.
Almost what I am after, but a bit too blingy (too much gold and not convinced on the white headstock).
The rough mockup of what I'm trying to achieve:
Current status of the project is the guitar kit is (hopefully) being sent out this week from Canada, along with a tone pros gold tailpiece and bridge, I've ordered a set of mini locking grovers from Stewmac.
I'm in touch with Tulsah from mylespaul to get the headstock inlay made in MOP, my wife and I are expecting our first child near the end of July, not sure whether it's a boy or girl yet, so I'm paying to get both names made up
I'm yet to decide on the pickups to use. I won't be painting the guitar myself, but will be involved with the assembly, anything I don't want to mess up will be done by CA Guitarworks.
Dave.
