If they dont wanna write a story bout them, have them retire and leave it up to the viewer to make their own up as to what happens to them.. surely people arent that attracted to death to want to see these iconic characters snuffed out like this?
I guess for me though I invest in characters and love them and get attached.. When they die like this it kinda makes it hard for me to rewatch any prior films knowing that theyre now dead.
The plot was a big steaming turd though. The second half in particular was just a mess. Shame.
The unusual thing, for me, is that I actually followed the plot, I think because I was in a cinema and forced to concentrate. Normally I see a Bond film as a series of seemingly disconnected episodes, pieced together.
My biggest issue was that with Q on the radio for the final sections it felt like Paddington was giving Bond directions. Admittedly not the movie's fault but made me chuckle.
I have no issue with the ending at all. Bond at this point is no different to a lot of long-running comic books where each one is a separate branch of canon and doesn't necessarily have any bearing on the next (in fact that's how all pre-Craig bonds were done as well). The bigger annoyance for me was the feeling they needed to subvert expectations with everything rather than just one or two areas of the plot.
I also didn't like the obsession with the DB5 in every one of these movies. I liked the brief appearance in Casino, and it actually made sense in the context of Skyfall but elsewhere it's unnecessary.
The ending of Spectre and the other ongoing relationships effectively wiping the slate clean for another Bond reboot.
I can't see them going for a period piece although I think there's scope for that as a separate part of the Bond universe.
I think part of the success of the Bond movies was always the element of travelogue, especially earlier on when many people watching wouldn't have been to Jamaica or New Orleans and they've continued to find amazing locations ( who doesn't want to drive around bridges in Norway after No Time to Die).

Its almost like they didn’t notice the Daniel Craig era was a complete reboot separate from everything that had come before. Alternative Bond universe where JB didn’t know who Blofeld and Spectre were, and he’d never rescued a stolen Faberge egg, and never got Sean Bean killed.
