I do think a run of 'all killer, no filler' classic albums- guitar heavy as well- would reel people in.
Sometimes there's nothin like choosing something many people are familiar with, but sharing the music with new people helps you hear news things in it or get a different perspective.
From the better known section of my notes I fancy something from the Rolling Stones, U2, The Strokes, My Bloody Valentine, RHCP, and Sigur Ros but very happy for others to put some effort in too
Is that the kind of thing we're thinking of?
Violator - Depeche Mode
Hotel California- Eagles
Let It Be - Beatles…or the White Album?
Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Stanley Road - Paul Weller
Screamadelica - Primal Scream
Load/ Reload - Metallica
just some suggestions (not sure we haven’t already done some of them!)
I don’t even like some of these albums, but that’s not really the point.
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Eric Clapton - 24 Nights
As for "when am I ready?" You'll never be ready. It works in reverse, you become ready by doing it. - pmbomb
I'm not going to add any more suggestions as there's more than enough already suggested.
London Calling might be a bit more interesting as a topic of conversation? (but that's not a suggestion )
Damn ...
10cc - Deceptive Bends
Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi
Ben Harper - Let It Shine
CCR - take your pick
Dire Straits - Dire Straits
ELO - New World Record
(Just did A-E, picking one from each!).
Now all we need is a vote in order to decide which ones to do. I reckon we'll be ready with our list by about September ...
TBH, it's not so much about *what* we all listen to, it's more about the discipline of making the time to actively listen to something (anything) and hearing other people's thoughts about it.
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.
...Inspired by a couple of recent threads on the Music section, it might be fun to try out?
If you're not familiar with the Idea, Tim Burgess (The Charlatans) does them on social media. Basically, you choose an album (usually a classic or something deserving of revisiting) and arrange a time and everyone listens on their own, but simultaneously. You all then chip in with comments and observations as you listen through the album.
We could set a thread up for each album and keep the comments nice and short, but regular as we go. I'd certainly be interested in the comments on musical content in real time by many on here.
