As far as I know though Weller played the original recorded version.
Unsung is a broad term, so I take it to mean players who have done great things but don't get the credit they deserve, hence:
Ed King of lynyrd Skynyrd fame, fantastic player largely responsible for all the best moments on the first 3 albums yet often overlooked.
Rick Richards and Dan Baird, both great roots rock and roll players but never better than when they were together in the Georgia Satellites
Just minor pent with an added 9th I think....
It truly is one of my desert island discs...means so much to me as a song...

A knackered old strat, a Peavey Bandit, and two of the best ears ever wired up to two of the best hands to ever touch a guitar.

Not sure I'd agree about Luke Morley, but Danny of Thunder is surely one of the most underrated singers.
Agreed on these three.
I'll chuck Bernard Sumner in for the Joy Division stuff and his funky fills in New Order.
My all time under the radar hero is Vini Reilly of the Durutti Column.
Most will have heard some of his work (though not typical) on Morrissey's Viva Hate and some of the early singles like Suedehead.
