    Freedom of speech is a legal concept, not a social one.

    Walk into a redneck bar in deep in the heart of Texas and say, "I'm gay!" and see how far it gets you - perhaps that will illustrate the difference for you.

    It's not illegal to use a word or phrase to which some people take umbrage. It is illegal to do so in a way designed to incite hate or violence; whether people are personally offended or not is neither here nor there.

    She insulted me with her statement, violence is not a valid response in my eyes, I was joking, do you really think I was serious? I am not being racist, or do not believe I am by labelling Brixton however I do believe that yes, you would get into trouble if you walked through it calling people the n word, question 4, are you asking why I think racism is wrong and I should analyse it more and form a more coherent opinion based on the facts?     Freedom of speech is not a ''right'', it wasn't given to us by the government, it may be protected but it is just that you can say what ever you want , when ever you want because human beings have the ability to speak, you can get locked up for saying the wrong things but you will always be allowed to speak and form an opinion, how could a government/law stop you from speaking? Slander or libel is indeed a crime in this country, its not prohibited in freedom of speech but we have covered that already, it doesn't mean you are ''allowed'' to do it, it just means you have the ability and freedom to do it because you are able to speak.

    Have you ever been on the receiving end of ignorance/racism? I have, sometimes daily, its not nice and it can wind you up so much that you feel like punching someone in the face (I never have by the way, I usually just have to grin and bear it) so yes, although what I typed was in jest, I can see and understand how racism can be met with violence.
