I also recognised Gareth Edwards in the trenches, the rogue one director.

I swear Ian McKellen was in the crowd scene of the casino race, and was that Donald Sunderland as the rebel with the binoculars out of the trench on Crait?

  • I spotted the headmaster from 4 O' Clock Club on the rebel transporter. If you watch CBBC you'll know.

Turns out that the whole hyperspace tracking was mentioned in Rogue One, when the rebels were hacking the imperial station, they mentioned something about finding hyperspace tracking research....

    Pretty good little easter egg!

The bit that confused me was after the fight with Snoke/Kylo how the hell did Rey make it back to the falcon so easily, for me there was a whole escape scene missing - or did I drop off for 5 mins?

Yea, that's the one thing that had me like "WTF?"

But I assume Ren let her go, because wants to explore her front bum, and Chewy was probably just casually just waiting in the pick up/drop off spot.

Unless she did a Poppins as well....

Not a bad film overall, the Casino bits was absolute tosh - verging on Harry Potter with those camel things.

Leia Poppins was the biggest let down of the whole thing. I can give or take the Casino scene, and liked the introduction of Del Toro (Who was a nice surprise for me), but the Poppins bit was ridonk. That should have been the tearful end of Leia.

  • I can only assume Del Toro will feature in #9 because that whole sub-plot achieved little bar the demise of Phasm, and Hondo by proxy; but then you could say the whole film was about failure and that the only successful people were the ambivolent casino rich.
    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

The thing about the casino rich ... How do wealthy/scummy/exploitative casino rich types exist in the SW universe? You've got the good guys, OK, we can understand that they believe in fair trade and paying for their weapons.

But do we think Vader/Snoke and all of the bad guys sit down and negotiate a price that lets the casino-rich get richer? Wouldn't they just take what they want/kidnap the best weapon designers/etc? Isn't the point of being a supernaturally powerful despot that you can turn up and do the tyranny thing? Do you sit there with purchase orders and ask for 30 days' credit?

And when a Bad Guy finds out that the rich weapons dealers sold stuff to the Good Guys, wouldn't he be a bit peeved? Or does he think "bugger, but hey-ho, the rules of the free market trump my desire for control of the universe."

In this movie, the passing criticism of rich weapons dealers stood out like a sore thumb and just creates another hole in the SW universe.

  • Del Toro was great.

    Porgs were not overused.

I didn't mind ANY of the scenes with Luke that were odd, including the milking scene. It looked like a classic star wars creature to my eyes.

I liked the Casino scene. It's hard to make a 'classic planet' with new star wars. I liked the introduction to arms dealers. A much darker side to the story.

The hyperspace smash was one of the best space scenes I've ever seen. It was almost like 'what on earth has happened'....

Enjoyed the bombers and the whole scene.

Enjoyed the fact part of it was quite dark. Lot's of reality checks about the cost of war. Suprised!

    Crait is a cool planet.

Rey is fabulous. I think her raw energy and tomboy approach really works for that character.

Kylo Ren is a good villain - like Anakin he is angry and often immature in his approach.

Luke was pretty great throughout. Was not expecting that he projected himself; I just thought he was so powerful that it couldn't harm him.

    -------------------------------

What I am still a bit wary about?

Leia scene. Now I've read a few comments and theories, I get it. She obviously has use of the force but it was done in an odd way.

Humour - too much? Not sure. I don't mind a little but it kinda detracts from how dark it is. The Porg humour is well placed...I don't mind that.

Snoke - Cool character. Dead really easily. But perhaps that is it....it shows that even powerful users of the force can be killed off quickly. His guards are brilliant though.

    -------------------------------

Overall view? Going back tonight to see it in 2D. The 3D is FANTASTIC in this film....I felt immersed, but I want to see it without distractions.

I think I'll grow to absolutely love it. I just need some time to process the fact this is NEW Star Wars. A new appproach. A new generation.

Overally I think its brilliant and I am so glad we have a new era of Star Wars.

just back.   I really enjoyed it.   Its proper Star Wars through and through.  good and bad

I did find a few of the stories were glossed over, but i think you have to expect that with the whole expanded universe thing.   Didn't get enough Snoke/Phasma/Maz?   There will be a book, comic, game or even film that features them very soon.   Personally i love all that

I kinda wish the jedi were over though.

How did the books get in the falcon at the end?  If luke  put them there, the dramatic scene with the temple looses all impact.  was Yoda just calling his bluff???

My wife just reminded me about the phone gag at the start.   It really did feel like a spoof at that point

It was ok, bit of a sprawlly mess plot wise - Leia had 2 "goodbye" scenes and kept coming back .. very odd. Don't know why they stole the Battlestar Galactica (remake) plot-line - being chased through light speed jumps.  Some good gags, and I liked the details. They have to get Daisy & Adam back to give the next one (if there is) a drop of continuity. Phasma being gone was a good thing !!!! I think that poor old Gwendoline Christie has proved she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag with this and the last Top of the Lake.

Don't know if was me, but the opening chord of the beginning titles nearly made me crap my pants - very loud !
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

I know it's coming, but it still gives me goosebumps, every single time.

No idea if the light speed tracking story was intentionally stolen, but they mention the technology in Rogue One, so there is some tie in there.

Daisy and Adam need to be in the 3rd instalment as they were the best bit about the film, I don't see why they wouldn't be. Kylo Ren is everything Anakin should have been in the original prequels. The final 30 mins on Crait at the end was epic with all the little subtle details regarding Luke being a projection and the way the whole thing was told. I really want to see it again.
