I've got a Zoom H2 recording mic. If I were going mad not being able to find the source of the beep, I would try moving the mike around on a fixed stand in the the centre of, initally, each room, with the door closed to record it. It might be possible to look at the captures and see where the sound is loudest.. Just an idea(?)

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

This is more a thread for the masses. Anyone could be chirped any minute, or even any 32 seconds.

Have you looked in the loft for a smoke detector?
I liked my head up there and couldn't see one but my next move it to get up there and lift the insulation. I think there is something up there with a battery

First house I bought I was up in the loft putting down insulation and picked up what appeared to be a 2 foot long fluorescent lightbulb.  Turned out to be something that needed batteries and definitely wasn't a fluorescent lightbulb.  I was very glad to be wearing gloves.

Yes mate. After doing so it carried on beeping. But then stopped

Pretty sure my mains powered ones did that too, carried on for a bit then stopped. They're all linked and I'm sure became sentient! Reminds me must be due a battery change

What this thread needs is someone to post "beep" sometime next June.

  • We have mains smoke alarms that do start chirping sometimes - it's because they get dusty. So we have to give them a bit of a hoover and they stop chirping.

Do they chirp when you disable them completely, take them off their mounts, remove batteries, and put them in a drawer?

I've never done any of those things.

If it does come back I give you the option - for free - of assistance with a sledge hammer.
