Yes I think they did say it was a custom..  Ive always wanted a 336.. That's kind of my planned retirement, one day guitar.. This new DC has just taken the top spot of what I want  

Also im hoping that they use the DC shape more and we get to see a USA version too.. Ive never understood why Gibson hold back on that shape. Its such a popular shape they should bring it to the front more.

I guess it goes back to the problematic neck joint on the original DC LP Special, which they solved by moving the neck pickup further into the body - which seems to be the case on this new DC model too.  And they've subsequently had all those Les Paul DC models with 24 frets - but you couldn't reach those extra frets because they were beyond the cutaway.

Having said that, Hamer and PRS have used similar double-cutaway shapes and I've never heard of problems with their neck joints.

Not sure if i'm being delusional or not, but i could swear that i saw they're using ebony fretboards again for the Les Paul Modern. Hopefully meaning they'll make an appearance back on the custom model again.

I think ebony on the customs was already announced in one of the videos I’ve seen.

They've had a little bit of ebony in use in the Custom Shop over the past few years, even since the raid. 

There's probably no reason that they can't be using tonnes more of it other than pride and hubris, and now that that's been shown the door it should be all systems go for ebony on whatever they want.

Remember when ebony was a reasonably common feature of LP Studios?

It wasn't just Les Pauls either - I've got two SG special faded series models from 2004 that have Ebony boards too... :-)

Yes its very similar..  But they said it wasn't based on any older model. Its more a custom order DC Special with a flametop.. They said they had so many people order them the last couple of years they decided to make their own.

Well the NAMM roundup emails are coming through from the big retailers and Gibson doesn’t really feature. It’s all jimmy page tells and Marshall studio amps.

Presumably because they are as yet unable to link to the newly unveiled 2019 models or give any prices. Shame.

One thing on the new Gibbos - is it just me or do they all look super shiney - more than normal, almost PRS dipped in glass look, which I’m not a huge fan of but hey, could be the lighting.
