Looks like a few stored are already taking delivery of some models.  Peach have photographed a Les Paul and a few SG's.  All look the part at least, not so keen on the 61 SG stripey grain though, kills the look for me.  The SG custom and special look great though.
Hmm I wonder when the specials and juniors are due in stores?

I never know what to make of Epiphone. My friends LP is gash, as is my singers Casino. But I tried a Sheraton a while ago that I really liked. In one of the rehearsal rooms I used to use they had a LP Custom that was actually a pretty decent guitar.

They just strike me as a bit all over the place, much like the Tokai’s I’ve tried weirdly enough.

Like any budget brand you often have to try a few before you find one you like.  I definitely wouldn't buy an epiphone site unseen.  If I buy one of these I'll go to and try some first.

I really hope the 50's necks are nice on these I don't really like the profile epiphone les pauls normally come with.

Yeah budget guitars can look cool but the allure _may_ wear off on contact.  Others of them you'll play all day

My main guitar for most of the time I was starting out learning was an Epiphone LP Custom so I have a bit of a soft spot for them (and cheaper guitars in general), but just wasn’t feeling the ones they had on offer at NAMM. Everything was good apart from the necks which felt a bit cheap and generic. Maybe just need to play a few more, but think I’ve maybe got accustomed to my Gibson now and can’t get on with the plasticky finish of the Epiphone or the harsher fretboard edge any more.

  • The Les Paul modern looks good but would need a pup upgrade

The prophecy looked great at NAMM but can’t find any info at all about it

I've often read on here that even with the big name brands (especially Gibson) you have to try a few before you buy one you like... so not just isolated to budget brands from what I read.

Has anyone played a guitar with a laurel fretboard before? I've tried a lot of different fretboards but never anything made from laurel

Not a new headstock but this might be my favourite new Epi they've released on spec at least

Ebony fingerboard and comes with Alnico 2 Firebird pickups
oooo that's nice. Full hollow I imagine and a fixed bridge? The LP junior looks tasty as well. Now if they only rereleased the Epi LP baritone...

I'd wouldn't expect them to hold up well to the rigours of playing - laurel isn't hardy.

I've had three Squiers at various price points with a laurel board.  Naturally darker than the Pau Ferro commonly being used recently, and darkens up further with some lemon oil.

The bass vi I had and the deluxe Jazzmaster I've still got, I don't even notice that they aren't rosewood tbh.

Thanks I'll check them out when someone gets the specials in stock

I wouldn't have really thought about the stripey grain if you hadn't mentioned it, but it does look quite different from the type of mahogany they use on the US guitars.  I've got a couple of MIJ Epiphones which have a similar look.

Yeah I don't know what its about.  Some other forums mention veneers on Epiphone SG's, so I don't know if this look is connected to that or whether it's just the grade of wood they are using.

It shouldn't matter, but I've had a 60's SG and I hold that image in my head of what one should look like.  After all Epiphone keep saying that is what they are aiming for with the new line.  The solid colours look great, as do the Les Pauls.

Casino is nicer I think. Is that a full size Casino or a 339 body style?

I presume the new Epiphone Uptown Kat has the same lower bout spec as the WildKat, which is 14", so it would be 339 size.

  • Lots of the new epiphones hitting the stores now

Despite having a les Paul CS habit of late I still really fancy one of the Epi Les Paul moderns in the candy red finish.

Really like the new headstock shape too
