The best part of it was that he had his spare house key in one of those magnetic key boxes attached to the fuse box for when he locked himself out!

Days 2 and 3 were more sorting crap, and making the building secure and watertight.

After smashing out the door and frame, we had an issue...

    "Hmmm... there's something missing!"

Better make sure this one fits!

Many hours of grunting, heaving and fine tuning later...

    Huzzah!

Just some packing, filling and the security trim to fit (so you can't attack it with a pry bar...which definitely wouldn't work anyway, but might scratch the paint!)

We then got to work on the knackered old window, smashing the glass and removing the rotten frame. Lemmy watched on at our rock and roll destruction with an approving look

New frame completed, we decided to make it way heavier and more complicated than we needed to, just for fun...

We did actually get it installed, but it was a bit of a mad rush and I didn't get pics. Will take some tomorrow.

    Two important deliveries today...

Well you need those creature comforts / somewhere for the drummer to pass out drunk!

...and 20 bales of this stuff, along with a huge box of mute clips and many many resilient bars to clip to them!

Heavy couple of days, but tomorrow we will actually be able to start building stud walls, run the electric cables and hopefully stuff the walls with the insulation.

The delivery of the neoprene strips to go under the stud walls has been sitting in the Parcelforce depot in Rotherham since Tuesday.

So far, it's been "prepared for delivery" 3 times, but not actually put on a van. Very frustrating, as without it, all we can do is build sections of stud wall but not actually put them up.

I know there are delays, but this was a "guaranteed before 12 next day" delivery.

    Grrr!

That's been up there years I reckon, but I'm keeping it! Very rock n roll!

You'd be welcome to come and test it with me Josh, once it's up and we're allowed to socialise! :D

Definitely up for that! This is where I'm up to with the first room at the new JamFactory place. Plug wiring is done, a couple of windows, double skinned soundbloc inside and cavities insulated. I'm just in the process of getting soundbloc on the ceiling which is awkward on my own. But looking forward to seeing it finished and seeing how successful the soundproofing is with the two windows in. We've also floated the whole frame on rubber like you're planning to do, so hoping that will make a big difference to the bass transfer.

That looks like an epic build on a much grander scale than mine!

    Nice one!

Days 4 & 5 completed, and real, tangible progress!

The rockwool is in for the ceiling, with just the loft hatch to build and soundproof, so I can chuck hard cases and gig bags up there when not in use

We also did a quick test fit to check operation and ceiling height for the sound clips and bars. There will be two layers of plasterboard screwed to the bars.

Today we built the stud walls, ready to fit next week. Each section will be footed on neoprene and screwed together before being rockwool stuffed and double boarded.

The tricky section for the inner door was bashed out tonight, and then we called it for the day!

Steady progress, won't be long at this rate!

The new desk, wall lights, underlay and carpet tiles all arrived today too. :D

Wow, You are making great progress! How are you going to lift the ceiling plasterboards into place?

We've got a plasterer in to do 6 rooms in the house next week, and he's lending me a hoist for that job. He's skimming the studio when he's done in the house anyway.

Today, as I'm on my own, I'm getting some one person jobs done.

Two coats of tanking slurry applied to the wall that gets the water runoff from the sloping garden. No sign of water coming in, but once I build a wall in front of this one it'll be very hard to check. Belt and braces and all that!

Other than that I'm just ferrying some of the previous owner's crap up to the skip and having a tidy up.

Been sorting out acoustic treatments for inside, and think I've worked out a starting point for what I'll need. I've ordered some big wall mounted screens and some bass traps, and a few of the smaller tiles for specific jobs.

Obviously it'll all need tweaking once the room is setup.

    Looking good.

Having been doing some recording over the last few weeks in a 9'x9' room that multi-tasks as home office (BFO printer, filing cabinet etc.), Mrs Snags crafting area (long desk), Mrs Snags crafting crap storage, guitar case storage, general random shit store etc. I am exceedingly jealous.

I'm also looking at our garage which is collapsing and needs rebuilding and working out just how much money I'd need to throw at the problem to get it sorted beyond my initial vision of "not falling down, and watertight".

@Snags if you're rebuilding it anyway, you'll have a far easier time thinking about sound proofing starting from scratch.

Note; I said easier. Not cheaper! A completely decoupled room is easier to achieve if starting from the ground up though.

It would be spendy - don't have the time/tools/mates to self-build, so would be paying the builders to do it. And still need space for stuff that lives in there. But ... some thinking shall be done.

Tell me about it! Mrs Keefy’s sister has an entire room full of crafting crap. No matter how many obviously recycled greetings cards she makes, it never seems to get any less crapulent.
