Pretty much identical. You have to really listen hard to hear drums from up at the buildings over the ambient noise. 

That test, on the steps halfway up, was still a good 15m away from the houses.

Amusingly, the over anxious older couple next door, that have repeatedly told me how worried they are about the studio, asked me this afternoon when I was going to be ready to do some tests to see if they can hear it! 

I told them I'd done 3 already as we progressed through the different stages of soundproofing. I then played them the above video. They were astonished, and the relief on their faces was palpable. 

I guess @Snags was wrong ... evidence worked!

They're not real old people. They must be government stooges spying on you. Line the studio with tinfoil just to be sure.

Couple of finishing jobs done yesterday, but as I was under close supervision from the CEO and shot caller from the household (you can see him on the sofa!) I wasn't able to get loads done yesterday. 

Constructed loft hatch, full of rockwool

Tidied up the cable entry point.


Just need to run some sealant around it.

Bizarrely, most of my session work has been on hold or cancelled indefinitely since lockdown. Until this week in fact. Won a contract to deliver 1:1 music wellbeing sessions for CAMHS referrals, students in PRU education and Youth Offenders for a county council. From next week I'll be delivering sessions from the studio, but on Zoom.

As it happens, I was up there this evening setting up the recording gear as we're finally having a band practice on Sunday night, and it seems like an ideal opportunity to test everything. 

I'm not convinced it'll be much good though...we've not played together since February!

Ready for a trial run tonight! 

Gonna get some idea of how the room sounds both live and recorded before applying the rest of the acoustic treatment. 




It's currently setup for my band, with me on rhythm guitar and vox, a lead guitar, bass and drummer, which is why I've put the guitars next to each other.

Yep. Great for cables, pedals, cups, tea, coffee, projector, dvds ... so much stuff!
