  • I have recently been called an addict by the most prolific of guitar purchasers known to man...
It has left me in a cold sweat. So come on one and all, help me out and tell me that a fair few of you have more guitars than me.

    My current count :  12
    Down to 6 now.

Struggling to go any further at this point
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

4 electric, 2 acoustic, 4 basses, but hope to thin the bass herd to 2 or 3, and could in theory get guitar hard down to 3.
Am gassing for an SG junior or Epi casino, something different... can't justify for now....

Updated my list on p5 (Dec 2014), up from 10 to 14. Amps still the same but added my MFX to pad it out a bit so it doesn't look so meagre.

Jesus, I can't believe that this thread was 6 years ago. :o And I've only improved by 4 guitars. That's just 0.75 guitars a year, which is absolutely pathetic!  :'(

Les Paul, Tele, Strat and that's the lot. I'm quite partial to a Musicman Axis Supersport or PRS Custom 24 though and my guitar fund has been building up so I may add to that :)

@AuldReekie, would love to see a group photo. What PRS and Larrivee models?
First the PRS - 3 McCartys (Humbucker maple cap, Soapbar Standard, Hollowbody1) Swamp Ash Special (H/S/H) original Starla, SE One (with TV Jones T90). Larrivee - TSB SD50, CO9, OM09. The latter is kept in a pibroch tuning DAAEAE.
    SD50, lovely
Only Larrivee I kept was my TSB SD60
Ended up with a baritone version too!

In truth, a LP, a Tele and a Strat is all anyone needs.  The rest is window dressing.

The damned things seem to somehow multiply on their own... I did have three electric guitars, two acoustics and two basses, and I was intending to get it down to two of each which seemed sensible.

But I now have four electrics, three acoustics and three basses.

    Hmmm...

  • The most I ever owned simultaneously was 11; right now I have 2: both superstrats, one with a Floyd & one hardtail. Oh, and a cheap bass which I use for recording
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

    :)

I made the mistake of saying I was going to buy one electric to replace two of them... only the first bit happened (so far). The third acoustic was in a charity shop and I was going to fix it up and sell, but turned out to be an interestingly different addition to what I already have - and the bass was for sale but no-one seems to want it so I decided to keep it.

When people ask me "How many guitars do you own?" I always reply "Not enough!".

In numeric terms - 13.  2 Basses, 3 Acoustic and 8 Electric (plus a ukulele).  I have two of the acoustics hung on the wall then I have two racks: one with 9 slots, the other with 3).  From the above information you should be able to work out that I have one free rack space (because the uke won't go in the rack).

Guitar racks are like the electron shells of atoms.  If a shell isn't full the atom is reactive and will seek to find ways to fill itself.  My guitar collection has a valency of 1.  Now I could either purchase another guitar from someone who has more guitars than rack spaces (an Ionic  Bond) or I could set up a scheme whereby I borrow guitars from, and lend guitars to, a friend who also has an incomplete rack (a Covalent Bond).

I can understand why you're fretting over this, and it is a pain in the neck. I pick up where you're coming from and you're not the only one saddled with this dillema..many of us have to cross this bridge and I think you need to have a grown up parental talk with them about safe plucking, and contraception, and inlay the law down that this can't carry on!
