Hell yes!  Especially when combined with the thumpy, tappy acoustic thing.  It's basically overdubbing smugness onto more smugness.

In my defence, it's usually because in the heat of the moment I'm guessing which note it is. A bit like roulette with more potentially horrible sounding outcomes.

It's beyond horrible.   And most of the people who do it look so smug.  Why sound like a good guitarist when you can sound like a mediocre guitarist, drummer and bass player playing lift music.
