Do The Waterboys count as a Scottish band. Mike Scott sure is, but it’s been a revolving door line-up backing him.

Scott is from Edinburgh, but I don't think the band ever had it's roots in Scotland.

One serious name missing from the list so far ( maybe I just missed it )

Frankie Miller , one helluva singer. Last time I saw him live was a club gig with Brian Robertson on guitar and Simon Kirk on drums.

I have to give a mention to the excellent singer/guitarist Willy Finlayson. As a prominent member of Writing On The Wall, Bees Make Honey, Meal Ticket and The Hurters as well as all his solo work the quality of his music has never waned. Always a joy to see.

Biffy Clyro, probably one of my favourite bands at the moment. Brilliant live too.
I've never been able to get into them, but I find them interesting because they're just about the only current Rock band who seem to be acceptable/popular with mainstream audiences - I've been hearing them mentioned on Radio 1 Live Lounge adverts this week.  What do they have which gives them that crossover appeal?

They do have some great pop songs I guess, some real anthems too, and some real quirky and heavy stuff, but as a musician they are just really interesting. They use odd time signatures, often that switches through the song or even each bar, they can play really heavy stuff, stadium rock, an acoustic ballad and it all works and sounds real.

Their output is of an excellent quality generally and they are pretty eclectic musically. Simon on first look is a heavily tattooed Scot that beats a guitar in to submission but he seems very talented and his lockdown shows from his house had him playing songs solo with completely different arrangements to the originals.

Live they are 100mph, loud and so tight as a band.

Edit: mentioning live lounge it's worth checking YouTube for their cover of WAP I think it shows their sense of humour perfectly.

I actually can’t believe I actually forgot the best band I have ever seen live. Better than the kings of Leon or the foo fighters or even simple minds ( by the way have they been mentioned).

    The

    Johnny

    7

live in the 13th Note (glasford street), seen Bis in there too possibly on the same night, before the move to Ingram street.
