My son wanted to watch it, my wife insisted it would be a family event.

Same reason I watched Frozen (different son) - I refuse to believe anything can be inferred from watching a film under duress... or when enticed by the promise of .. other stuff ;)
A sig-nat-eur? What am I meant to use this for ffs?! Is this thing recording?

Obviously, I I try and suspend belief and just enjoy the ride when I sit down on a Saturday night at 8:30... but sometimes the plot inconsistencies get to me when they break the simplest laws of physics. :)

    Was the promise upheld?

You're going back to 1998 ... I seem to recall it was.

It was probably an Indian, Mike, my missus is a suspicious veggie, Chinese seem a bit wobbly on what's meat and what isn't.

I was wondering about the Dragon thing - it reminded me of Ted Hughes' Iron Man but the Soup Dragon what a brilliant observation

So Soup Dragon/Baby Soup Dragon, Iron Chicken - scrapped Shuttle, Froglets - Spider things...

that'd make the cast a bunch of Clangers.

Surely Indian is more wobbly on what's meat and what isn't?

Anyway, but to Dr Who. Since it relaunched, I've seen them all. This series is the weakest (IMO) since the restart. Like I said before, I can't put my finger on why, whether it's PC or the scripts, it just seems very weak and rushed.

  • One thing that bugs me, annoying schoolgirl goes on to become the first female president of the USA, but then forgets about what happened on the moon when she was a teenager? Also, a British woman as American president?

Clara with a bob haircut, in a 1920s flapper dress. Oh, man...

I completely agree about Capaldi's grumpy Doctor being maybe the best ever - possibly even beating Christopher Ecclestone.
Oddly enough @ICBM, I was having a drink in the bar at The Lowry in about 2005, prior to seeing John Martyn and who should be sitting a few feet away but Christopher Ecclestone - who IIRC had just stopped being Dr Who.... He has great taste in music!

  • Excellent appearance of a Tom Baker impression. Jelly Babies, too...

Quite enjoyed this one. Probably one of the better one-shots, if not really on a par with Blink (although I'm not sure that really counts as a one-shot, given the reappearances of the Angels).

Superb episode! Very good all round. If only they could all be that good! Couldn't take my eyes off of Clara's cleavage! That was a bonus!!!

Best one yet in this series - by a distance.

  • The only problem is it is becoming "gawp at Clara" rather than doctor who.
She is totally gorgeous and could watch her all day. I think the director is playing us though. All those wide eyed close ups, and sexing up (how did they get a cleavage on her, think that could ne partly makeup and a lot of underpinning.)
Not that I am complaining, I would watch her own series, but it is distracting....

Looks like next weeks is a bit train related too...

Was a good episode. I liked the references. Capaldi/his Doctor is fantastic. He's so subtle with the way he expresses emotions, and has this mystery about him where he doesn't even know himself everything about him. Hence the calling on past iterations.
