19,000 cows on a ship - sleeping in their own faeces.  They've just endured an unimaginable journey from Brazil to Cape Town that left many dead and injured and this afternoon this ship left Cape Town for a two week journey to Iraq.

For fuck's sake....  have some humans no compassion ??

The ship is owned and operated by Al Mawashi of Kuwait - https://almawashi.com.kw/about-us/corporate

What, another person who hates all Muslims? What about Brazil letting it happen?
In fact it's also against halal principles but never mind your ignorance.

Happens all the time. Here in Oz, every so often news of similar cruelty leaks out into the media and the government cracks down, often banning live export of sheep and cattle to the usual places in the Middle East. After a while the glare of public attention fades and they start it up again. Oh, and they promise faithfully that the cruelty won't ever, ever happen  again until the next time someone sneaks a camera onto a ship.

My immediate thought was “were they using an old slave ship?”  But that’s silly; ship building has come a long way since then.

As a 40 year + veggie and someone who abhours animal cruelty, this is one of the reasons that turned me off eating meat.

However, setting that aside, I can't help but wonder if it isn't cheaper to process the meat in the original country and transport it as the finished product rather than transport live animals.  Unless they are being transported to be cattle at the final destination.

In either case, the death rate and ill health caused by this form of transport must impact the final product when it does eventually turn up.

We arnt that much better to be fair, except we have normalised animal cruelty to an extent. Obviousley not to the extent in the extent in the original post.
This video might look quite tame to you, I am sure it isnt to the cattle, cruelty isnt just physical.

It’s a big global trade..  we just don’t question the sentience behind the burger, sausage or the salami.

But doesn’t halal requires local ritual slaughter.. dhabiha, hence the particular need for live transport? There seems to be a fundamental and implicit conflict with the overall animal welfare if they cannot import carcasses.

Sheep central.. New Zealand has banned live animal export transport by sea.  So it can be done.

Nope - another person who hates cruelty to animals.  That includes the practice of halal butchering.

Oh - and by the way.  Go and look at the footage of those animals on that boat - some of which had to be humanely destroyed.  When you've done so, tell me that you don't think the people who let this happen are total and utter cunts.

Same. There's been some horrendous cruelty footage from halal abbatoirs.

Here's the thing and there is no kidding yourself on this, if you eat meat, you are part of this problem. Cruelty goes unchecked in so many aspects of meat farming, it's unavoidable other than simply packing it in. For most people, that's too much of a lifestyle change to be bothered about.
And then all this blather and mither about climate change and shifting to more eco friendly sources of energy - a cheaper and easier shift is simple to reduce or stop eating meat, We eat way too much and it's shafting the planet.

    Viva sprouts!!

The troubling thing is nothing is going to change. Some nations just don't get care. As long as the money keeps a rollin' in...
