I recommend a small head, like the Micro Terror and plug it into your combo's speaker. Sure the cable won't be long enough, but all you need is a female coupler (about £3 from Maplins) and a speaker cable. This will extend the original speaker's cable all the way to your back up head. Of course, make sure your speaker and back up head have suitably matching ohms.

If it's clean when it goes into an amp, but dirty into the mixer you are overdriving the mixer.

Yeah but how? How can I stop it overdriving? Just turn the gain knob down?

Reduce the output level from the pedal or the input gain on the mixer.

Does the mixer have some kind of level meter or clip lights?

Yes it has clipping lights. I shall plug it in again in the morning but when I last did it, it was dirty whatever. I'll have to get back to you if I may to clarify my settings etc. I suppose I could just go into one of the floor monitors and bypass the mixer by purchasing a lead with a 1/4 jack one end and an XLR the other ?

Hope you guys can help me further. I have taken a couple of shots (see links below, hope they work for you). The Joyo is going straight in to the mixer and whatever I do the sound is quite simply awful :( If I turn the gain knob right down on the mixer there is hardly any signal going though and cant really really hear anything. It's all fuzzy which is useless to me :(

Connection is: Guitar - Joyo – Mackie mixer - Mackie PA speaker

    Can you help?

Try turning the level down on the pedal and the gain on the mixer up. It may be overdriving the first input stage of the mixer which is before the gain control. I wouldn't have thought it was that likely given the mixer input is 'line', but if it was that would certainly give a very nasty sound.

Doh just sorted it. It was a dead battery. Plugged in a 9v power supply and worked like a treat. Now a great sounding pedal

Sorry for the wasted time guys

    lol

About one in 20 of the pedals I get into the shop for 'repair' is faulty in exactly the same way, so don't feel too stupid, especially if you bought it new :).

    But do feel
    somewhat stupid ;)

Glad it worked out for you - it's a hell of a lot more convenient solution than lugging around a spare amp.

Always jumping to a bad conclusion before exploring every possibility. The battery is usually the last one. Should have learnt by now ;)

Gonna be a great solution as you say than lugging around another amp

Roland Cube 60's are good. Use the Black Panel or Tweed setting and it contains onboard fx too. The modulations are ok but the reverb and delay are good.

Portable, loud enough to gig, has a line out and other modelling sounds in it too.

You can get them used for as low as £90-100! It was my main amp for functions and now serves as a back up.

    Not bad at all.

Any verdicts on the gainier side of Joyo amp sims? Anything that would do a passable metal/hard rock sound?
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • How do the joyos sound with pedals going into them?

Atm I use a pocket pod into the PA as a backup and run my pedal board into it as I would a real amp. I use drive pedals into a clean amp model and it does the job very well. My only gripe is being the pocket version, the controls are a bit fiddly so something like the Joyo would be a better option provided you could run it clean and use pedals for dirt. They'd probably be easier to power as well I imagine.
