In future jack up the price by X% . If I sell on eBay I always bring it up 14% but accept outside deals minus that.

you obviously knew the crack when you listed it on there. now it's sold ur moaning about paying paypal fees.
the buyers bought in good faith n pay the asking price so you need to just complete the deal instead of moaning about a few pound of fees.
all I can say is this is really bad form.

Ok.  One final question for you all.  You've seen a guitar you fancy on a website.  It's being sold by an individual, not a shop.  If you don't like it, you won't get your money back.

Do you contact the seller or just send a four figure sum to the seller, sight unseen, and hope it's OK?

And ignore whether or not it might have faults - it doesn't.

You mean just like on an eBay Buy It Now sale?

Happens millions of times every day.
    Surely not?
YES!! It's a BUY IT NOW option not a 'show interest then contact the seller for a chat' option!!

The whole premise is that the sellers description and pictures are excellent and show the item in its true light, a buyer likes what he sees and can BUY IT NOW with the minimum of hassle. Therefore the seller should think about this in advance, set the buy it now price higher than the price they actually want so the buyer gets the item, eschews the auction process while paying a small up charge (factored into the sellers BIN price). Then the transaction can be completed and the item shipped, no one need talk to anyone if they don't want to. That make any sense?

    :-)

Surely yes! That's the whole point of Buy It Now.

Thats why there are PayPal fees for buyer protection!

    How naive are you?

You might've expected the buyer to ask about shipping before he paid for the guitar, I suppose. Unless it was advertised as collection only, or free shipping, which I take it, it wasn't...
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I think this is one of *those* threads.

    Question asked.

Replies given, and seem to have been received in mainly good humour.

    Closure of thread imminent ...

It seems that I have been a bit dumb here.  Have contacted reverb and will re-establish contact with the buyer tomorrow and he did say that he still wants the thing.

    finish your vat submission

    and use a calculator
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

    Quite bonkers though.

You didn't have to lower the price or advertise it at the price you did... you had plenty of chances to ponder whether you wanted to sell, surely??

Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.

Strictly between the two of us, life has been a bit stressful of late and, maybe, just maybe, some slightly irrational thinking has been going on.

I blame the milk tanker driver for not being thirty seconds earlier.  If he had been, I would have missed him.....

Close the thread Tony unless anyone has anything to add.  I need to finish this bloody VAT return.

All good experience and I still think this is a great place to hang out so you'll all have to put up with me.
