Whilst laying on a beech in Cornwall with perfect scenery (below) and as good weather as you could ever hope for in late September, listening to Ben Howard’s new album, the perfect soundtrack.

Falmouth is lovely, if you like a surf beach porth towan on the opposite coast is a cracker.  If you like a walk look up Ralph's Cupboard near Tehidy Country Park.  Sat there and watched basking sharks playing with a kayaker, lovely spot.

Well, over the last couple of days at least and off the back of reading Steve Lukather's book, I've been listening to the whole Toto back catalogue as well as any recordings he featured on over his illustrious career like things with Boz Scaggs, Quincy Jones and one my fave solos of his, 'Physical' by O.Newton-John. Don't know that solo, it's blinding!

There's some great stuff here, especially the early stuff but I love the 'Isolation' album

  • New John Butler Trio album "HOME".
    oh my god it's good.
His vocals, lyrics and guitar are haunting me. It's some of his best stuff IMO

  • New Coheed & Cambria.
Listened to the album on Apple Music.
Disappointingly, manufacturing issues mean that it will take at least a week or more before physical copy arrives (and yes, I need it, because Coheed know how to do artwork!!)

  • Anyone else came across The Goon Sax?

Trio of Aussies who have just released their second LP at the age of 19 (!) . Someone gave it to me as a present and it's so good I'd bought their first LP by the time it had finished its first play.

Don't know how to describe them, other than really good guitar based pop...

A few weeks on after first listen and I’m a little obsessed by Ben Howard Noonday Dream, it’s a masterpiece of an album. It’s quite inaccessible considering he was once considered Ed Sheeran’s peer! - it just sounds so uncompromising.

This is one of the more inaccessible ones, but by goodness, stick some headphones on and let it wrap around you..

I’ll have this marked as my funeral song until something more beautiful comes along!

The new Marcus King one. A bit less acid jazz and a bit more southern rock than the last one imo.

    It's OK
    Few good songs.
Nothing that really blows me away.

    Tom Petty - American Treasure

4 disc anthology set split into a decade per CD. Some great alt versions and live tracks, but strangely a few album tracks but they're not the usual greatest hits, so it's not being marketed as a "best of" plus extras, and those of us who want the unreleased stuff are bound to already have the studio albums, so seems a weird choice for me.

Still the songs are great, some utterly fantastic guitar tones (if you like that sort of thing) and a sad reminder of just how flipping great Tom and the guys were together.
