On a whim - Deep Purple Stombringer - not ‘classic’ Purps perhaps but superbly executed mid 70’s funky rock all the same, lack of much Ritchie notwithstanding. All other musos superb. Fairly naff lyrics of course but they aren’t alone on that score
This is the truth from hillbilly guitars!

    Yngwie Malmsteen "Blue Lightning"
The title track is awesome! But probably because it's not him trying to do a blues song. At least if Blue Lightning is his idea of 'blues' (the song) then it's a very warped idea of blues...

Anyway. I like most of it. Not so sure about the covers of Paint It Black (honestly this just sounds weird) and While My Guitar Gently Weeps (more like While My Guitar Furiously Widdles). Cover of Smoke on the Water is uninspiring. I quite enjoyed his twists on Foxey Lady.

Oh and that song everyone bemoans about Sun's Up Top's Down... yeah. Nah.

    Highlights: Blue Lightning, Foxey Lady

Listening and watching the 2005 Whitesnake 'Still of the Night' concert when Coverdale was still able to hit the notes.

Great playing all round and good interplay between Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach but DAis on fire and and RB almost takes a secondary, supporting role.

I saw Martin Fogel play recently, and he was brilliant. Among many excellent pieces, he played this tune by Gismonti, and it was wonderful:

Latest Biffy Clyro album, kinda boring in places but love this one

Best strat tone I've ever heard (apart from Voodoo Child) and an absolute beast of a riff.

Loving this band Turnstile at the minute

  • MUSE's "Origin of Symmetry" album. I have only just got this... Released in 2001. It still sounds so immediate and so relevant.
Have not yet got through the entire disc but I recently bought a bunch of "new" stuff and to be honest I'm enjoying this near-19 year old album more than stuff that was released mere weeks ago.

14 CDs of Dylan and the Rolling Thunder Revue!

Rehearsal recordings, and then 5 complete concerts (well not really complete at all, it's just the Dylan sets from each night).

Tie in to the Scorsese docu that's now on Netflix.

There's a previous 2 disc Bootleg Series set covering this tour which is probably enough for most people, but I love this period and the line-up, especially Scarlet Rivera's fiddle and the occasional lick from Mick Ronson. Blood on the Tracks/Desire is my favorite Dylan period so I'm lapping this up, and the last box set with all the BotT sessions.
