Some final holiday runs that I didn't log.

    12th Aug  785km + 7km = 792km
    13th Aug  792km + 9km = 801km
    14th Aug  801km + 5km = 806km
    15th Aug  806km + 6km = 812km

and today back home in the UK with my new doggy aka running buddy.

    16th Aug  812km + 8km = 820km
I'm so annoyed I didn't start running with ours sooner (which my wife has great pleasure in telling me "I told you so")...Absolute game changer, as it kills two birds with one stone. I have to walk the dog anyway, so might as well run at the same time...she's still a bit reluctant to run with me on the lead as it means she can't stop and sniff every 5 seconds -_- but once we get to the safer off-lead bit I just do laps of the field whilst she does her own thing and trots along with me in my general proximity.
Today was the first go at it so it was a bit stop/start but I'm claiming it. :)
I'm training her to go off leash- at least when we are in the hills and not on the roads so that should be ok.

I have taken my dog running off lead, but the little bugger lives food poo so I have to be a bit careful!
Yea, ours likes horse shit, and eats other random crap if she feels like it, so I do have to keep an eye on her. Usually if I can call her or get her attention before she spots it, she'll come over and I can divert her attention, but the field I walk/run in is pretty clear so never encounter too many issues. *touch wood*

135km for the year and 64.3 of those in the past 30 days. Off on holiday this weekend so will need to take a break. Think I might need to anyway, I have a bit of pain in my right calf and to the top right of my left knee. All muscular I think.

Have you been fitted for proper running shoes?

as above make sure you have proper fitted running shoes (at least to find out what you need to fit your GAIT).

Remember to take days off between runs and try to alternate hard/easy runs. Constantly trying to go faster or longer will build up fatigue.

Often lower leg problems stem further up so make sure your hips, quads and hams aren't tight. A foam roller can really help (£10-£15).

Oh, didn't get both runs done over the weekend so I extended the Sunday run instead. 35.7 miles with just under 3000 feet of hills. Good run but really hot! Couple of days off for recovery and back out this evening for an easy run with the club, then downhill repeats tomorrow morning before work - toughen up the quads!

No, I have actually been using the same shoes for a few years. Looking at the wear on the soles, they are well overdue a replacement. I generally don't run enough to worry about it too much, I think it is just fatigue at the moment from running so much more than normal. I was just going to pop in Sports Direct, is it is *really* worth going to a specialist for the limited amount of running I do?

It's entirely up to you, but I had knee issues with £30 generic Asics shoes. Got my Gait analysed and spent £60-70 on a pair of shoes suitable for my running style, and knee problems disappeared immediately. I would definitely spend a few extra quid if you can, to save any unnecessary pains or niggles when you do run.

Sub 25min 5km tonight. Put some after market insoles in my shoes tonight and shin pain was definitely a lot less, so I'm going to have a few days off to rest my legs and start again at the weekend hopefully pain free.

Regarding shoes, and ignoring for the moment that I don't believe in much cushioning, I used to just establish what general type of runner I was, and then shop around for something cheap. So most people will be over pronators, which is combatted in the most part by denser (grey) foam on the medial side of a shoe. It really is that simple. I used to have great success in cheaper NB stability shoes, the 7 series, which I could pick up for £40 or so.

The shop I was analysed at didn't recommend any one brand, they just pointed me in the direction of their stability shoes. It was then up to me to find something comfortable. Asics were OK at first, but they started rubbing near the arch so I tried NB and they were fine.

Sports Direct do different types of shoe (stability, structured, neutral etc.), and they seem pretty decent although not cheap for the new season stuff.

7 miles this morning in my ancient smelly NB MR00 shoes.

This is a good point. I did the same once I knew what type of runner I was (over pronate - grey foam required). So after the Nike shoes I bought when I first started running, which were recommended to me by the local running shop, at £70ish, my latest pair are an Asics pair from the local Asics outlet and they've been great. I think I'm due a new pair soon though, as they're getting on a bit - the new insoles have given them new life though!

Oops, autocorrect! It should read "loves fox poo". I think there's less of it out in the open. Fox poo he rubs himself in, and sheep poo he eats with gusto.

I gathered you probably meant fox poo. Fortunately ours eats it...which, whilst gross, at least is "contained"! Literally nothing worse than the smell of fox poo on a dog. What the fuck must foxes eat for it to smell so bad???

It is weird, it smells very fishy to me. I agree, I'd prefer him to eat it, just remember to give it a few hours before any sloppy kisses!

haha! fortunately our springer isn't too licky, which is a bit of a result, considering some of the stuff she decides to eat.

Another 10k today 380k for the year now

Nearly another minute out of my 10k time and down to 54:09.

The final k was sub 5 minutes which is the first time ever on a long run so I'm chuffed with that.

5km last night, shins felt ok. Was my fastest 5km ever at 24:01. But absolutely gutted that it was 24:01! Stupid second!

Hopefully legs feel well enough tomorrow for 8 miles.

    140 miles/224km for the year
