Okay, no explosions or car chases but so interesting.
Looking at dozens, hundreds of snapshots of people's lives.
No narration other than a moving soundtrack of songs.
I thought Wind River was great, one of the better recent films

Yeah Walk among the Tombstones was quite dark in places, not a great film but unsettling in it's dialogue
Really? This has stupidly high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and other review sites. Im not saying it's a bad film but for me it was weak, very weak. Thor shows flashes of being the God of thunder but most of the time he's delivering crap jokes. Anyone for "devil's anus"?
They've managed to turn Hulk/Banner into something so far removed from even the Avengers sideshow they made him that hes dumber as Banner than the Hulk.
Loki is always going to be my favourite but totally underused.
Too much comedy and too much of the same sort of comedy for me.
Reasonably predictable, but pretty watchable. Don't need to see it again, but OK.
Pride And Prejudice And Zombies: 8.3 out of 9.7
I'm not sure if I've seen any zombie films since Zombieland, but this is definitely the best zombie film I've seen since Zombieland. Also the best period drama I've seen since Zombieland. A darned good mash-up and a very enjoyable romp.
Quite an interesting variation on the Beauty & The Beast story, but slightly let down by exaggerated clichéd characters and a similarly predictable plot, despite some attempts to make it more edgy and the characters more human... not bad, but I don't see it as a 'best picture' Oscar winner really.
7/10
Life Of Pi
Another one that I missed at the time but recently picked up on DVD. This is in a really different league, highly imaginative and visually mesmerising, even before the bit on the boat with the tiger - and emotionally quite powerful, with a surprisingly dark twist even though you know it's all a fantasy really.
9/10
"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski
"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein
Stegman's dead : quirky film about the murder of a porn directer who was blackmailing villains. Not great but worth a watch
Arty low-budget horror from (very) prolific (very) young director Mickey Keating. Echoes of Repulsion, Eraserhead and Les Diaboliques... not for all tastes, but I thought it was rather good.
A few funny moments but not one of Aardman’s best by a long way, and one very unnecessary and obvious naughty word that surprised me for a kids film.
A solid 9 out of 10
awesome

"Football"
"Cavemen"
....that'll do, let's make it.....
(much like anything involving pirates and dinosaurs togther)
Nikita hasn't aged well imo,it seemed quite hokey at times but that's probably because he's finessed the format over the years. Or maybe I'm just bored by violence in movies.
Watched Days of Heaven at the weekend. One of Terence Malick's early films with photography by the always wonderful and now sadly departed Nestor Alemendros (if you like film, search out his book Man With A Camera). Richard Gere looking incredibly young and a voiceover by a fabulous Linda Manz (shoulda been a big star). It's beautiful to look at, mostly shot during the magic hour each day and set on the wide open Texas landscape.
Holly Hunter in great form. A stage play put to film but doesn't suffer from it. It's quite an old movie but the dialogue is crackling and there's a stellar supporting cast. One of those films that truly warms the old cockles.
The Raid 2
Bigger and more ambitious than the first film, but not necessarily better. The whole undercover cops and gangs vs. gangs things has been done to death (maybe not in Indonesia but certainly in Hong Kong and elsewhere) and there's nothing new here. Great action scenes, though!
