@Terada single handedly fixing Gibson's finances.
I'm just glad I bought the Tobacco R9 first up.
Would post another gratuitous pic if I could, but blocked from picture hosting sites at work.
Just did another blind test and the triumvirate always come out on top.

Beautiful though.

It isn't REALLY bad. The neck is definitely more of an old type R8 neck than an R9. Much more shoulder. Tonally I thought it was ok actually, balanced and with good clarity, but it wasn't as good as any in the triumvirate that's for sure, and there are others that I have returned that were better also.
Looking more closely you could see a couple of rough areas - such as around the base of the tailpiece, but it wasn't terrible. I would assume that most have sent it back because of the neck rather than anything else. I wouldn't buy it for £3.5k though.
Not me I'm afraid! I have been in GG Epsom a tonne over the last couple of months. Usually would only get there maybe every couple of months though.
The tobacco was a curious one. Firstly I half felt like @Twinfan , as if too much of the top was being covered. But the other half of me thought yep that looks so rock and roll. Either way I think my preference would be for other finishes. It felt great, lovely neck etc and weighed a light 8.3 ish, but I found the bridge a bit nasal and lacking body for my taste. The neck sounded phenomenal though, which I couldn't quite get my head around.
Ha, I was tempted to say hi, thinking it could have been a forumer at the time, so I'm glad I didn't now!

Overall I reckon I've spent decent time with about 15 R8s, and maybe 8 R9s, but it has been mostly in shops. The ones I liked came home with me for long term testing through my rig.
Got to say that guitarguitar have been superb.
I kept it simple and bought just the one R8 ;-)
