  • Yes - it is a major change don't go unless you've got time to redial. The 4 patches I've compared (Recto, Mark IV, 5153 and JS410) all got quieter (total volume) a little brighter, and seem like they have less gain. Seems like you can dial in a higher value of bass knob than before, really hard to A/B on one unit though!

had a quick snoop on Q2.01b
just as you found, there are too many things to fix up and I don't have the time to deal with them right now..
back on Q2.00 for the next week or two I reckon

  • Yep count me in as preferring 2.01.

The low end seems cleaner, without being thinner.

I've been resetting amp blocks and redialling in from there.  Really only takes 2 minutes to get it sorted as I've already picked my IRs.  The only one I hate re-dialling in is the Mark IV, balancing the pre and post EQs is annoying, I wish they could be on the same screen in Axe edit.

    Yeh, its the feel.

If anything Im not as keen on the tone.  Apart from the volume miss-matches (which I have now re-set), the top end seems brasher, and the bottom less weighty.  Im assuming I will have to do some re-dialing in - which to be honest I dont have to do too often on FW updates.

The feel though - just seems more touch responsive to me.

I found I was best off just resetting the amp block and re-dialing from scratch.  I really think it is a major change and don't know why it isn't just called 3.0.

  • Anyone else compared cab lab converted ultra res IRs to 500ms versions?

I honestly feel there's a slight but noticeable difference using 500ms IRs so have totally abandoned cab lab in favour of loading 500ms OH IRs in Space Designer. I tend to use single mic IRs so not really a problem, and IR blending could easily be done duplicating tracks after tracking and treating them like real channels.

The biggest difference seems to be in the bass IRs. I don't think I have any options set wrong in cab lab, I just think the longer IR sounds a bit more natural and less 'Axe FX' if that makes sense. The shorter IRs tend to sound more immediate and tight, which I don't find necessary as there are already so many ways to make the Axe FX sound tight.

as it happens… I'm in the middle of recording something for fun [for a change]..

it has no deadline and so is the perfect opportunity for a little experimentation..
one of the things I was considering was popping cablab live on the channel strip in Logic and making a cab mix in situ because it can load 8 IR's at a time

but now you've gone and given me a new idea..
