We were bought a few years ago, and we're now getting on with fully merging. Our contracts were far more generous than the company that bought us - all of which got transferred over. The other side, however, get three duvet days a year.
We also had a tradition where if you worked one of the three days between christmas and new year, you got the other two off for free. This they tried to end, saying that it was never in our contracts.
It turns out the use of the phrase "implied term via custom and practice" strikes fear and panic into the HR lady.
We now get the duvet days, and the ability to carry holiday over. And an agreement that we can use all three duvet days in the winterval break. Yay me.
