Born Free - gets me every time

The Harrods lion story is also incredible and although it's only a documentary, this story needs to be made into a movie.

Yes, in the sixties a lion really did walk on a lead through the streets of London and after being released into the wild some years later he greeted his old owners like long lost parents. Such a great story.

You'll get a lump in your throat when they meet again on 33 minutes.

    The Falcon and The Snowman

The story of two Americans who spied for the Russians. No white-knuckle car chases, sultry femme fatales or high idealism - just two young men motivated by greed and boredom. One of Sean Penn's early roles and Bowie wrote 'This is Not America' for the film.

  • Pretty obvious serious answer - True Stories. They're all true, and it's also how Radiohead got their name.

Waterloo is another good film .. cost a fortune to make. To save money the battle scenes were filmed in Russia. The government supplied 17,000 soldiers and a full brigade of cavalry ad built numerous buildings. Some amazing battle scenes in the pre-CGI days. The full version of the film that was shown in Russia is nearly 4 hours long.

This cavalry attack must have taken some planning ....

@Fretwired you are wrong. Waterloo is an awesome film.  I watched it on Christmas day, on my own, in a hut, in Afghanistan.

Why am I wrong? I think it's a good film - saw it at the cinema when it came out.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

    Lone Survivor

great action film with a fantastic sound track from Explosions in the Sky. They also did a very good job of recreating the atmosphere of life in a military base in Afghanistan.

13 hours is also very good
