Honda specialise in bullet proof petrol engines, I wouldn't buy a Japanese diesel unless it had good warranty for the duration of my ownership.

If you can't find a petrol focus, fwvliw out of those 2 id go for the petrol engine Seat.

(My daily driver is a white 2016 Civic, near identical to the one you're looking at, all beit the facelift model with their 1.8 petrol engine. They drive well enough but not engaging at all. The interior is well put together, mine doesn't rattle or squeak at all.

Good luck with it, buying a cur under time pressure isnt as fun as it should be.

Don’t get a diesel, in the current market they are getting less desirable by the day.  You will be able to sell a small petrol MUCH easier.
This. The garage I use just had to take a diesel Fiesta to We Buy Any Car because they could almost literally not give it away.

Aside the govt. policy fuckup surrounding diesel and their rightfully bad rep on particulate emissions. They only really make sense if youre driving 18k + miles a year on the motorway. Under that petrol makes more sense. Less to go wrong, cheaper to service and still economical enough with modern, frugal engines.

Whatever the running costs, I would happily pay twice as much not to have a diesel.

I've not been around for a week or two, so I thought - after all that time - I'd see Emp's new car shown off in this thread?

(No, of course I didn't really, its only been a week or two :D)

Well, the bloody Civic had already been sold, so I went and test-drove a Honda Jazz.  It was a bit of a tin box for mummies and kids and a bit gutless with a 1.4 VTEC motor - but - it's a Honda Approved car from a Main Dealer, with all main dealer service stamps bar one, the oil was lovely and clean, the car was in excellent condition and it has a 12 month Honda warranty....but.... it's a gutless shopping trolley.

The earliest they could have it ready for me is Thursday - so I'll let them know tomorrow if I'm taking it.

It's not what I want but it is the most reliable car in surveys and will likely resell without difficulty when I find what I want.

Unless I find something more to my liking by tomorrow afternoon.

My mother in law loves hers.

Been reliable - though she's had it main dealer serviced (pricey pricey) since she got it  so it's been properly looked after.

But it is a bit of a mother in law car.

You'll take a hefty £hit though - paying top£ from a main dealer and then selling privately (or p/exing).

Go find a TFSi Mk2 TT.

They're starting at <£5k now, and £6k would get you a decent one.  Mileage will be 60k+, but that's nothing as long as its got FSH.  Cambelts need doing at 70k, so look for one that's been done and save yourself a big bill (ie it's worth getting one with more miles that's had the belt done, rather than lower miles but you'd have to get it done).

A petrol Jazz will be utterly reliable with that engine and monumentally dull in equal measures.

    My MIL likes hers, :)

The little old lady who lived opposite to us till she died recently had a turd brown Jazz for years. Perfect for the weekly trip to bingo and the library run  ;)

Why not buy the Seat Ibiza you posted back on page 12?

I've realised it's the FR model with the 'sports' suspension.  Likely to have been booted about by a spotty kid and I can't be arsed with driving something with 'shake you to bits' shock absorbers.

It may be or it may not. What condition was it in?

You can half guess what kind of previous owner it had by things like does it have match tyres, service history.

Plus everything these days comes with sports suspension, it’s not a negative.  You got to drive it to see if it’s actually a harsh ride.

My C30 is “sporty” model but I wouldn’t say it’s harsh, in fact my friends said it’s very smooth!
