First stuntman was 1986,  a generic baddie fell out of a first floor window in an episode of The A-team.
I feel like I'm missing the punchline of some deep-meta joke.

I'm sadly not that clever Daz.
Well, for a marker, this TV show about a stuntman started in 1981 and actually ended in '86:

Ok but that's not real, it's a tv show.

  • Perhaps stuntman could be an alternate career for Chappers, what with his kung fu skills and all.

I’ve not watched any videos or read any of the last 7 pages.... but anyone got the brief edited highlights? Not that I’m bothered... more like rubber necking at a car crash....

Chappers got revealed as a total knob. He retorted, and some YouTubers commented. We found Chappers mentioned in Shakespeare (and as a Viz character) and then the Fonz jumped over a shark on water-skis.

    Bravo Sir, an excellent summary.

    There’s the 1980 movie with O’Toole. It’s rather good...

  • From Wikipedia:

The first auditable paid stunt was in the 1908 film The Count of Monte Cristo, with $5 paid by the director to the acrobat who had to jump upside down from a cliff into the sea.[4]

    Is this a wind up?

RC seems like a decent fellow and has worked hard to get his business off the ground. I just can't help thinking he'd make a good Viz character.

"Rob Chappers. He Plays like the Clappers." or some tag line like that.

In this cartoon strip everything is turned towards Chappers and his ego.

He's walking down the street (with his chums, The "Chaptain" and Chabea) when he passes a Big Issue seller. "Big Issue. sir?"

"Greeeetings!" exclaims our hero. "No, my good man, I have a better idea. You must take the Chappers Challenge! I will donate one of my BS-1 electric guitars to your good self and you will appear in my YouTube video whilst proclaiming how charitable I am."

Then they go to the pub for a pint. "Fancy a Guinness, Chappers?" asks Chabea. "No, my Afro'd friend. I have a better idea. You must take the Chappers Challenge! I will donate..." and so on...

    Any decent cartoonists here?

    Superb.

I was talking about stuntmen. What's described there is an acrobat.

The main clue being the word 'acrobat' in the text that you quoted

Interestingly Shakespeare got name-checked by Lee Anderton on the NAMM video - coded reference that's he's watching this thread surely!!!

    (or just weird coincidence)

Oh sweet Jesus. Further on in the same article:

"Professional daredevil, Rodman Law, was a trick parachutist known to thousands for climbing the side of buildings and parachuting out aeroplanes and off of tall base objects like the Statue of Liberty. Some of his stunts were filmed by newsreel cameras and media still photographers. Law was brought into movies in 1912 to perform some of his stunts as the hero.”

Is this going to go the same way as the thread where you spent 5 pages arguing about what a musician is?

"Someone who does stunts is not a Stuntman unless they do many different kinds of stunts in different genres of movies".
    Or something like that.

The lionisation of Fonzie and his eventual irrelevance seems to be the roadmap here. Ironically Henry Winkler didn't use a stunt double for the water skiing scene.

Tony Wilson may have been quoting Lord Henry from The Picture of Dorian Grey who said "there is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about".

Chappers will get a billion hits. Good luck and greetings to him.
