Le Mans/WEC. I usually watch the lot but my God this year is a non event. LMP1 has one hybrid team which will be way out infront. Rebellion is the only other pukka LMP1 team so they'll be on their own. The remainder of LMP1 is a mish mash of crap that are unlikely to see the end. GTE Pro has BOP problems, Corvette may as well not turn up and Ford having gamed the system last year have been given even more power this year.
Aye, there are major problems in WEC this year. It's emphasised by how good IMSA and Indy have been this year.

That was very good, they should do a lot more of those.  Gives an interesting perspective.

Great video that, thanks for sharing it. Yes definitely more of that required during the race weekend!

  • I remember when they trialled helmet cam in the race at Monaco a few years back. It's even more intense seeing it in the actual cut and thrust of the race, not just a practice session. Shame they don't do more of it, but maybe things will change with Liberty being a bit more media savvy...

A camera could fitted in the Halo device to give a drivers perspective ..

Which part of the halo is the same place as the driver's head?  ;)

This is in car footage at its scary best.  Vast speed, loads of overtaking,  Oh, and its dark too.

I prefer to see the driver dancing the car through the corners and using a manual gear change.

The bit in front of him is at the same height - cameras are small these days. The problem with the head cam is the driver will lean his head one way of the other depending on the g forces of the corner he is going round.

I think the point is to give the impression of how little can be seen from the cockpit.

It's not exactly new, though.  Coulthard used one for his last GP and I'm sure plenty of others have since.

Have you drive a car with PDK?

Yesterday's Blancpain GT 6 hours of Paul Ricard was absolutely wonderful. 6 different manufacturers made up the top 6. Paul Ricard is not the most beautiful circuit going but it has tended to throw up good GT races there in recent years. Hopefully it'll be the same for F1.

Are you suggesting that paddle-shifts (even the better PDK/DSG/ZF) are in some way better than a manual gearbox?

They aren't, they might shift faster but so what?  You might as well have a CVT.

I totally am.  Having driven 911s with manual gearboxes, including GT3s, I find them very old fashioned in comparison to a pdk gearbox which is only a double clutch, switch activated manual.   In fact, even my old CLK55 feels more modern than a manual 911.

No comparison to CVT box whatsoever.  You are in full control of a pdk and can still blow it up if you are dumb enough.
