I’ve always fancied a Brian May but the amount of switching combinations put me off.
I like the pickups and have a few Burns guitars with them.
Give it a go; having the choice is nice, but you’ll probably find yourself gravitating towards just a few of them.  As far as I’m aware Brian May spends 90% of his time on bridge & middle in phase, which is close to bridge humbucker territory.  Neck and middle out of phase gets a look in for squealing solo moments.

It’s very versatile and great for covering a lot of territory, far beyond Queen wannabe moments. The only reason I don’t use it live more often is that the audience automatically expects a setful of Queen covers.

My old Robin Trower Bridge of Sighs CS Strat. Basically a 70s big headstock  model with Trower’s own choice of pickups. Came with a Fulltone Dejavibe and a bunch of RT photos and CDs. I never really loved it, although it was a nice enough guitar. I ended up selling it to Slim from the Hamsters.

@Nightswan ;Your photos are always ace, and this was my very favourite guitar back in the day. I remember getting to play one in Chandlers. I nearly cried.

  • My only currently played guitars are both Artist sigs.

Both Ibanez; Satriani JS1000 Satch for my electric, and Henson TH10TODN for nylon acoustic duties.

Do I play them because of the association? Nope. But I am a fan of both artists.

The Satch came about after playing one to try out a Fred pickup in about 1990, turned out the neck profile was exactly what I like, so eventually bought one from @fretmeister for a very good price and is still my main squeeze. Put a Fred back into it though ;)

The Henson because I only play nylon acoustics. Saw some Polyphia stuff and thought it seemed like a good fit. Played one and it indeed was. Plays brilliantly and can sound like a "normal" classical, or whatever you want once you start to use the pre-amp capabilities, especially with plug-ins/IR/etc.

Is it entirely co-incindental that I play sig guitars from artists I listen to and admire? Unlikely. Would I play them regardless? Absolutely.

Wow, I never thought I'd encounter someone who has one of those!   I never considered buying one, but I was always fascinated by the design.  And the website still exists!

I have a Fender Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster. I got it because I just liked the spec and oxblood colour really. The pickup toggle switch works for me more than the standard slide switch as well. The signature aspect didn't really come into it. In fact, that kind of put me off. Great guitar though: I still enjoy having it.
