And I think YouTuber Tina S is phenomenal - she disappeared for quite some time but has resurfaced recently with a band (and a lot of tattoos).

Come on we all know Tina S is the best female Guitarist ever.

Tina S was indeed a phenomenon. Looks like she wisely took a few years off from YouTube, and came back with a band. I quite like the new stuff.

Lari Basilio is amazing. Tasteful phrasing and dynamics, one of my favourite modern lead players

Guitar playing is definitely male dominated, but nobody could even begin to think that a lady wasn't as capable of being as good at guitar as a man
    Lady?
    Or woman?
I'm not being deliberately obtuse here, but I genuinely don't understand what you're saying.
Well, I was sort of joking, but 'lady' is equivalent to 'gentleman'.
There is a sort of value judgement inherent in both these terms, and they are a bit old fashioned.
The assumption of 'cultured and refined'.

'Woman' is the equivalent to 'man'.
I'd tend to use woman, not lady, although it sort of depends as to where it sits in the sentence, as an adjective or a noun.

So female doctor is probably more appropriate than woman doctor.
Woman is usually a noun, not an adjective.
Lady is also a noun, but not *neutral* (for want of a better word) as a descriptor.

So in the original sentence 'Guitar playing is definitely male dominated, but nobody could even begin to think that a lady wasn't as capable of being as good at guitar as a man'

I'd argue that the right term here is woman, not lady.

I realise this *might not be the right place* to draw such a distinction, even on International Women's Day, therefore my comment was somewhat tongue in cheek.

the following short YouTube clip has 3 female-dominated classic tracks played at the R&R HoFame back in 95 when I had been seeing her for a few years.  She is still going strong !

Surprised nobody has mentioned Susanna Hoffs, if only for the photo op.
She even looks great at 65 with no make up.

Has anyone said the Haims yet? All excellent players, even if they usually put a bit too much filler on the back end of each record

I think the most impressive band member I have played with was Jess Lewis. At the time she was quite young but insanely good. We were playing in a RockaBilly band and some of the solo's could go on for quite a long time but I always found her playing interesting and very accurate. I was only meant to dep for the band until they found a replacement guitarist but ended doing about 3 years, the last 10 gigs or so with Jess then I left. Here's her doing a Guthrie cover

Is this appropriate on a thread celebrating International Women's Day?

Do we really need to talk about how attractive they are?

...this is exactly why this forum gets a reputation for being sexist. A thread celebrating great female musicians, and one person has to go and make it all about the looks.

    Don't be that guy, everyone.

Emp can't delete anything, he's not a modmin.

And as for deleting content...we don't do that except in egregious cases. For everything else, I'd rather give everyone an example of what not to do.
