The new albums by Failure, Goatsnake and High On Fire are just kickass.

Still need to listen to the new Rosetta.

Also, you know what, today I've been listening to Silencer.

"Death - Pierce Me" is still a very unsettling listen, but I've made it through the whole album now and have sort of desensitized myself to it. It's not as terrifying as I remember, it scared the living daylights out of me when I first heard it but I think that was partly because I didn't know what to expect. Now I do know what to expect, of course, and it's been easier to get to grips with.

@reverend I guess you can say "I told you so" :D

I also listened to this album, to which Silencer's sound is often compared... these are some fucking strange vocals too.

I mean... vocally, he's an absolute powerhouse, he shrieks, growls, cackles and gargles like some kind of sadistic, unhinged werewolf. He channels pure, demented fury better than any metal vocalist I've ever heard... I'm not going to pretend it's pleasant to listen to though :D

Have you heard Ghost Bath? If you can handle silencer's vocals you'll love them.

The new Joe Satriani album. I like it. More melodic than the last one. I think he peaked at Super Colossal though.

Long overdue, but I'm finally getting into Cocteau Twins. Heaven or Las Vegas is an amazing album.

A Kurt Rosenwinkel New Quartet 2015 bootleg I got.  Really excellent playing on it and quite a lot of the tunes have a Brazilian feel to them.

I'm listening to the new Warren Haynes album, Ashes & Dust. And liking it a lot.

Check out the Banjo and the Fiddle on track 2: Coal Tattoo. But most of all check out the guitar playing. And the tone!

    U137 - "The Poet"

A bit "guitary" compared to my usual tastes but what a lovely track.

    Suede.

Big admission - I'd never actually heard Dog Man Star, which is supposedly their masterpiece. I was never keen on the first album, and for quite a long time I thought I didn't like Bernard Butler in general - I much prefer the later albums with Richard Oakes. I subsequently came to like him via another collaboration (not McAlmont & Butler) and like his solo stuff.

Yesterday I picked up a copy of Dog Man Star. Wow. Yes, everyone who raves about it is right - it is a masterpiece.

So today I also got the first album. Hmmmm… no, I still don't really like it. It's not terrible, but it does remind me why I never really got into them and why I didn't like Butler's playing initially. Interesting.
I did the same recently with both Suede and Dog Man Star, except I still don't get it. Animal Nitrate is a great song, and DMS is clearly better than Suede, but otherwise I prefer Coming Up. Maybe I need to try harder with DMS.
