    January 31st: 135km + 5km = 140km.
24 min 15 seconds today- not super quick but a decent pace.

Not bad for the first month- if I keep this up I won't just make Berlin, I'll almost make Warsaw. :)
    Chuffed but puffed.

31st Jan - 7.5km, 96km for the month. Would've been good to make 100km but happy with progress so far.

5k Friday then 6.5k's yesterday and today. Bit of walking in there as well on top of the run distances. Feel good I've made my run 'target distance' albeit quite slow around 41mins for the 6.5k.

A natural runner I'm most definitely not but getting close to my target 12.5 stone (6ft 1" height) and that's from almost 17 back in 2015.

    Onwards!

    Cheers
    Hugh

    LOL- what a nutter.
I love the " he has run every day since 20 December 1964 - even with a snapped sternum following a car crash in 1993 and for six weeks in a plaster cast after an operation on his foot" bit.

Look up Phil Maffetone or the MAF. Lots of useful info on Z2 training for both increasing aerobic capacity and ability of body to burn fats as fuel :-)

Also Matt Fitzgerald is along similar line. Personally I prefer Matt's 80/20 since I think you should develop all areas of running rather than focus on just one element.
Thanks Dan. I was aware of the 80:20. I'll take a look at the MAF stuff too. It's always good to consider different ideas re training.
I tend to agree that working on all areas is the way to go.

I recently got a whole load of old training books from back when my brother was a  400M runner.  I just need to find the time to read them.

Ran 10k this evening with a mate. Little by little it's coming back.

    I have another raging cold.

Most annoying as I've reached the point where I feel I'm missing something important if I don't run

Hopefully get out again on the weekend

That's how it starts!  You'll be joining a club and pinning on numbers next :)

Ran to the shop this morning.  My legs were heavy after running last night but I feel pretty good now.  Maybe I'll trundle home this evening too.
Strava says 148km so far this year.

Excellent.  Does help running with others to push you along.:-)

  • 6.6 km today.

Better ankle brace helped so much.

Have managed to knacker another pair of shoes, so it's off to Aldi for some more.  Or poundland.  You should always be taking care of your feet.

    92km + 6km = 98km

Last night I developed a chest 'rattle'. It came on about 7pm but was gone by this morning. Sounded like clicking like I have asthma (which I don't). Had it once before about 2 years ago when I went out in thick fog and it's been ok since. Might be my training room is steaming up and having an effect. Its not stopping me though!

Got bored just running slowly so tried a bit of a fartlek on last nights run home.  Felt good to pick up the pace little.  I think I'll do it again next week.  Maybe some hill sprints too.

  • 5-ish miles yesterday and 5 today, both in Xeroshoes sandals. They were fine yesterday, the route we run is a bit muddy, lots of standing water and I had no problems whatsoever. Today, the bit where the string goes through the sole near the outside of both ankles rubbed quite a bit. So now I have iffy scabs on my insteps and a couple more on the other side. Doh! I'll wear socks and fivefingers for Parkrun and see how I get on.

    Finally broke the 100 mark

    98km + 5km = 103km and no weird chest noises thankfully.
