Hi all, I thought I’d share an exceptional find I recently was lucky enough to score- an early ‘53 LP Goldtop that’s free from any breaks but had been half stripped on the back, refinished on the top with rattle cans with no wood prep, drilled for various unknown bridges and had each and every original part lost since the ‘90s- as you do!
The fact it weighs an astonishingly 5.6lbs undressed with a humbucker friendly ‘53 neck pitch, and all the mods means it’s value as a Goldtop has been destroyed, it’s a perfect candidate for a PAF Burst conversion- but there’s more..
When I first received pics of it I immediately homed in on the heavy ripples in the crappy refin, indicating there was flame figure beneath (and no sealer coats!), plus I could just make out the hint of a two piece very nearly centre seam top, so I was more than a little intrigued.

Good luck, your work is stunning and I look forward to seeing the finished product next week.........!
I’m going the whole hog with ‘59 PAFs, ‘59 loom, ‘50s nickel hardware, ‘50s plastics- I think this one deserves it
