My daughter always greats her female friends with "hi guys" when the come to the foor.
Assembled by hand does, hand finished does, but not hand built.
Its a bit padantic i know.
To me, power tools are fine, if there used in the builders hand. Same for jigs and such. Once you use automation, such as cnc routers, its no longer truly hand made. At that point its partly made by a machine controlled by a computer.
Unless there is an accepted definition of what automation id and isnt aloud to still be handmade, its kind of a pointless phrase. It means different things to different people.
This does not diminish the skill of luthiers. Taking machine cut parts, then hand shaping, sanding, finishing etc etc. Fretwork setup etc. That is what is hand made means in practice, and thats where the skill is BUT its not truly hand made by the pure definition.
I guess, hand built is accurate, hand made isnt.
Thank you sir. Thank you so much.

Cellulose is also a polymer of course albeit a naturally occurring one, modified by nitration
