8oz gloves now....first 3-4 rounds will be interesting, if Conor tags him Floyd will feel it.

If it goes past 5 rounds Floyd will cruise to the end as he always does
I dont know anything about boxing really, but what does 8oz gloves have to do with it?
    Size and weight (and padding).

Smsller and lighter = less padding when they hit, less useful in defending.

Worth noting that Floyd likes 8oz anyway. This article states he's used them 45/49 fights.

True. But Mayweather tends to favour Grant and Winning gloves which aren't known as a punchers glove. If he wears Cleto Reyes, which i can't recall him ever wearing then that would make a statement that he wants to take McGregor out.

This will be an absolute pantomime. I'd be amazed if the boxing match isn't won by the boxer.

I might even pay to see this one.

I'm hoping 1 knocks the other out and then slips and knocks himself out.

What time are they due in the ring?
I might too - £19.95 but the fight time is still unknown - will be after midnight. I'll probably fall asleep!

Nobody can seriously claim that MMA/UFC is a sport.  Entertainment, certainly but not sport.

Oh yes, the many many martial arts they use, Olympic wrestling and of course the boxing have no history of being sports at all.

Are you sure you are not confusing UFC for American Wrestling?
Seriously, this is a fucking stupid thing to say.

MMA is most definitely a sport.
I invite you to go roll with some jiujutsu chaps, or take a kick boxing/Muy Thai class, or a boxing class, or Judo, or Muay Thai, or Greco-Roman wrestling.
Then go and try to do them all at once.

You're 50% correct, UFC is indeed not a sport. UFC is a promotional company.

MMA, on the other hand, is by definition a sport.

    With regards to the fight:
I expect a Mayweather win by KO round 7-8. An aggressive champion boxer like Hatton couldn't get a clean shot on him, I can't see Conor doing so. He has a punchers chance & packs genuine power, but his unorthodox style will only be an asset until he gets figured out. Then I expect Floyd to open up.

I think the referee will have an important impact on the fight: Conor is bigger (& used to wrestling) I'd expect him to fight from range generally then to clinch & use his weight if distance is closed. How much "dirty boxing" the ref allows will be interesting to see.

The lighter gloves are less tiring to use (both offensively and defensively), provide less protection when defending (as they leave gaps and are more likely to find those gaps).

With regards to the broader discussion:
Rocker shows his ignorance with the statement that UFC isn't a sport. That's like claiming that Manchester United aren't a sport. The UFC is a franchise (as are Belator, OneFC, Invicta...)

MMA is undoubtedly a sport & an unbelievably demanding one. It takes skill & dedication to become proficient in one aspect of the sport.

These guys & girls are ridiculously fit, skilled & talented there are MANY Olympic/world medallists competing but very few of these win a title.
I train BJJ & kickboxing recreationally (but have no illusions about taking it further) some of the guys I train with have trained with Mike Bisping, JoJo Calderwood, Dan Hardy and Conor.
They all say that the pros are unreal to spar with. Like the difference between those of us doing the Running Club and Mo Farah/Usain Bolt.

I agree that the UFC have lost their way somewhat recently in the hunt for ever larger paydays. Conor v Diaz, Bisping v Henderson/GSP being prime examples. Where contenders are being skipped for money fights.
Don't get me started on Sonnen/Ortiz/Silva/Rampage in Belator The most deserving contender isn't currently getting their dues.

    Sorry for the essay.

Don't apologize for being a thoughtful, if a tad verbose, intelligent character.

The pigshit thick-fuck anti-musician old-dickslit wankers around here don't care for it, but the rest of us do.

Mayweather is going to paste McGregor. The depth in boxing in huge. 49 world title contenders and several holders have faced Mayweather. Yet his nose, cheek bones and ears are untouched. Most pro boxers come out of fights with Manny Paquio physically damaged. McGregor won't get past his defence.

McGregor won't be able to resist a roundhouse or knee to the face

The only things in Conors favour are...

Mayweather will never have faced anything like it
Mayweather will not have been able to prepare for his style in sparring
There is no competitive footage of Conor in a boxing ring so Floyd's team will have to come up with multiple strategies and adapt on the fly
    Floyd is old
Conor is physically bigger and has fought bigger fighters
Conor is fucking hard as nails
Conor is a mental warfare specialist. He will get in Mayweathers head if it is possible for anyone to do that

However Floyd will box McGregors dick off for 12 rounds. He doesn't have KO power at 154lb.
