It’s difficult to keep up with this thread, it expands so quickly, but has Emp not considered the Skoda estate in the fb classifieds?

What the fuck are people doing in their cars?!!  The Merc smelled like an ashtray, this civic smelled like they'd been keeping pigs in it!

It’s probably a vagrant, slept in the car. Or maybe just used it as a toilet and moved on.

It was a V40 not a v60, but it was in very good nick. I couldn't get inside it because the guy had left for the day. I am going back tomorrow to check it out further.  I spoke to him on the phone though and he said it was full main dealer service history, maybe one or two independents.  The interior is leather and looks in decent condition.  It has a factory tow bar, so has probably been used to pull a caravan.  I was quite impressed to see genuine Volvo wiper blades on it as well.  Who the fuck buys genuine wiper blades?  It's £2,195.  I think I could knock him down to to £2100 or possibly lower.  I can't see anything obvious wrong with it except for the outer skin of the back box is rusted away and hanging off.

The first place I went to also had a Mazda 3 in that lovely candy apple red metallic they do.  I clocked immediately that it had had a rear-end shunt but on closer inspection I was horrified to discover they had painted the back half of the car in non-metallic paint!  They had the shade of red spot on on, but it was a flat colour!  What kind of idiot would do that?

Now with 12 months MOT, due 1/8/2020

56 plate, petrol, manual estate with 126k miles. In decent mechanical condition with a big chunk of receipts etc. Last serviced 9/5/2019. Four good deep tread Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres. Climate control AC, electric windows all round with child lock, electric mirrors, maxi dot dash display, height adjustable front seats, Isofix on the rear seats, part leather interior, huge boot, full-size spare wheel, decent stereo, height and reach adjustable steering wheel and remote central locking with total closure.

Not altogether surprisingly for a 13 year old car there are some cosmetic issues. There is some minor parking damage to a couple of corners and some blemishes to the paint.

Due to these, we’re pricing it low at £1700 ono

It’s a pretty fast estate but still subtle and with the massive boot makes a great, quick load-lugger.

    In Sheffield

Cheers Tony. I fear the car would not match up to Emp’s strict criteria and we’re a bit of a trek from Swansea.

But, it’s available, there’s some give on the price and I’m sure we could figure something out

The 2.2 Honda diesel is a strong engine. Problem is its a filthy old diesel spewing out particulate. The skoda estate looks a decent buy and it won't stick and rattle when cold.

Hmmm..... that Mazda 6 might be off my list...  they don't do paper service histories, only digital ones stored at Mazda.  The chances of this little Arthur Daley outfit having any access to that will be nil...  plus... I've discovered that Mazda diesels don't have a good rep for reliability.  They don't seem to be good with engines in general....  Shame, as I sat in it and it was comfy as anything, plus the paint colour was delicious.  I can't find anything on Mazda's website abount how to enquire about service history either.

FYI, this was the state on one of the better discs on that Civic....

No offence lads but there's no way I'm going to Sheffield for a car.  I've done my trek.  Never again.

In other news - the salesman from the Hyundai garage emailed me enthusiastically to show me photos of the Veloster now they've corrected the colour difference.  After careful consideration, I've decided I have no faith in Hyundai Approved Used Cars.
