On the Honda front I had a 2003 2.0 civic (type-s not type-r) which I bought for the princely sum of £405. Anyway, there was a slight knocking from the front as if there was some free play in the steering rack or a loose ball joint or something else beyond my ken. As a friend suggested, it being a Honda, it would probably keep going like that for another few years. I had it checked out and although the (experiences) mechanic could hear/feel the same knocking, there was no obvious free play when putting it on the ramp and checking. After 3 years it was still the same, despite my tendency to drive it like I was 18 all over again from time to time. Importantly when I bought it, it had been fitted with Goodyears all round....

1. Well done mate. I like civics and I think you're yet to fall in love with their reliability.
