I'm guessing because a strat sold for way more than any Gibson ever did

    Why?
Iconic brand less valued than old competitor.
And    no grounds for a lawsuit        ;)

    "..... a dentists glass case."

I think we are talking "hedge fund managers climate-controlled vault" for some of them!
DG and the auctioneers must be very pleased.
    Insane prices.

From Rolling Stone Mag '...the so-called Black Strat, fetched $3,975,000'

Hmmm, I'm thinking I know which I'd rather have, unless the auction included David G. coming round to play it for me at my whim.

How the actual fuck can a Washburn sell for 35k and my absolute favourite Strat of all time sell for a (comparatively) measly 500k?!

Somewhat inversely, how can it sell for so low when the black one went for that world record price tag? Which is amazing btw.

I'm gutted about the red Strat, like genuinely disappointed that he doesn't own it any more.

As much as we become desensitised to the numbers in the context of this auction, 465 grand (the difference) is a lot of money and a big difference. The Washburn only went for 7% of the price of the Strat you like.

Have to admit I'm as surprised as the others who have commented that there was such huge prices for the non-iconic guitars that were just a part of his collection. Okay they were still his but the buyers probably didn't even know he had them before this auction was announced lol

Possibly if people went there already clearing it in their heads that they were ready to donate a lot of money to get a Gilmour guitar, when they lost out on the famous ones they had already accounted for the money going. I'd rather have any of his guitars than none if I was in a financial position like that.

It's possible that he bid on it of course. It does happen I think.

    Arise Sir David.

In a way, I am glad it's not gone to some person that wanted it purely as an investment. Jim Irsay is a fruitloop but a genuine fan too.

there’s a lot of disposable income sat around that genuinely could be doing more good than sat in bank accounts and DG has righted that wrong.
