As an aside while we're waiting, do you think there's any other guitar in existence that would fetch more than Gilmour's Black Strat?
    The red special. Macca’s bass
    Very good shouts!

I think Macca's first bass got stolen or something and his current one took over at one point?

I also fancied the Charvel humbucker guitar (Lot 65), but thought the estimate was a bit high ... HA!

The pink strat (lot 72) also looks nice ... but again, might be a bit price ;)

I do wonder how many people had their eye on things, it got away from them and they're just going to buy _something_, hence the crazy bids.

Then again, if you're a fan and have the cash, why not? I'm just surprised ...

    Not at all.

You have to remember the Gilmour fans - far more than any others - are at the "buying more/ better/ shinier /greyer-more-dymo-ed gear" end of the tone-chasing spectrum.

And to think that they managed to hatch that conspiracy theory without the aid of the internet.  Say what you like but these modern conspiracists don’t have half of the skills of the older generation

I am a huge Gilmour  fan, but an old strat is an old stat even if it has a bit of his DNA on it. How much are the underpants and socks he wore whilst recording comfortably numb going for?

I was considering that in the other thread. I reckon it's pretty short list: Lennon's Casino, Page's #1 and/or #2 LPs, Micawber, the Red Special and maybe Springsteen's Esquire.
I think if Claptons Beano Les Paul ever surfaces it would sell for an crazy large amount.

It's so impressive the things that people did before the internet that are so easy to do now.

E.g. running a fan club involved collecting a list of people's addresses by them finding out about you and writing to you then actually coming up with material to send out.

These days a fan club is just clicking "like" on a social media page named after an artist that was set up by a Yugoslavian fraudster to sell to spammers once it receives enough followers.
