Will keep my iPhone 6 or look for a cheap 7 if I have to upgrade...
Saying that - I definitely would not buy that iPhone.

That may be true, but you can get a phone with all the same features much cheaper.
It's the same thing with watches, a £5 watch will tell the time just as well as a £5000 one.
Seriously, where's that mountain?...
More lols from fan boys expected ..
Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!
It's an internet browser,
a Sat-Nav,
a music store,
a wallet,
a load of shop & restaurant loyalty/discount cards,
an email service,
a compass,
a level,
a game of cards,
a TV set,
an alarm clock,
a camera,
a movie camera,
a messaging service,
a watch,
a stopwatch,
etc...
...and a phone.
All in one compact unit.

I honestly don't think there's anything I need my current phone can't do. Possibly I'm no longer the target market for cutting edge phones
I get you're point and you're right but in all honesty how many people want to spend £1K for all that functionality? You'll be a mugging target from day one ..
Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!
Is it £1k or $1k?
Have you ever known anybody mugged for their iPhone?
But anyway, I'm mid-contract, so I won't be spending money on one for a while.
In terms of what you listed, I added the most affordable actual items to my Amazon basket, curious as to what the cost would be:
There was an alarm clock and camera on there too.
The question is: is it worth shelling out £850 more for the privilege of convenience when (1) the above items do a pretty good job (2) who uses a compass, spirit level, and plays cards anyway? (3) surfing the net and emailing can be done at home, and (4) how much of your precious time is wasted on an costly device. Not least the vulnerability of damage and the cost of repair.
Called me old fashioned, cynical, whatever, but civilisation has truly lost its way to technology IMHO and we're becoming a bunch of modern day neanderthals because of it.
